  1. welcome SDEMT-B. I also currently in the SD county area and a 20 y/o EMT-B. congratz. In terms of jobs, theres some information which would be useful to you. I am currently working for a Private company because it best caters to my schedule. now for the 411; rural metro has a contract with SD to provide 911 response. AMR is also contracted in a couple districts within SD county. However, in light of san diego's interesting economic state and lower call volume, AMR and RM have both put a freeze on their hiring. Its great to try to apply but they are impacted with applications, (this doesnt mean you shouldnt apply). I am aware that AMR has about 45 emt's on their hiring waitlist, but you never know. Also they are generally much more interested if not only interested in hiring full time and only accept part time under certain conditions. I have heard mixed accounts of them not allowing part time for school but part time for fire academy, but dont take my word for it. Private BLS/CCT companies: There are so many to choose from. For starters i know of most of them; AmeriCare, Alert, Balboa, E.R. , Pacific, Care, Schaeffer. are the ones i know off the top of my head. id rather not post anything on my opinions on these as i would like to keep that more private and i do not know if any of my co-workers are also on this forum. Just PM me or send me an email and ill gladly get back to u via email or we could meet up.
  2. I was only 13 when 9/11 occurred, and i couldnt quite grasp the magnitude of the situation then or even years past. I guess its taken 7 long years for me to actually sit down, watch the raw footage and take it all in. Doing it now and a EMT-B has made me feel as though it has just hit me. realizing that i could only imagine the chaos and terror that wracked the NYC. I have an even greater appreciation for both those who served and sacrificed during the events of 9/11 and also all of my fellow peers with whom i work with. thank you all for being that special breed of person. -Spencer
  3. Hey guys, i will soon be taking the NR-EMT and i plan to pass it. it may sound cocky, but ive really dedicated my free time to knowing the material and applying it in class. i plan on entering paramedic school soon (if u must comment on that, post on my thread in the training forum please) and i was wondering if i should go out for a transport job as BLS or work some where more stationary. What can i do as an entry level EMT-B in the hospital system? i know that emt-b's can be ER techs, but what does that mean? sorry for all the questions, but im determined to get this ball moving. thanks for the input
  4. Hey fellow EMSers I am currently living in northern california but i am about to move down to southern california for personal and financial reasons. what i was wondering is if any of you guys have gone through an EMT program or know of one inside of in between LA and San Diego county? i do not mind the commute since i have friends to stay with. I am an EMT-B but i dont have much field experience. based on what is being said on these forums it sounds like u can go to paramedic school with or without experience depending on how prepared you are to devote yourself to becoming a good paramedic. i know that UCLA has a program but that option is currently off limits to me due personal reasons. once again, im looking for any input as to good paramedic schools. preferably 1 year in training in San Diego, but as i said, i can study and attend as far north as LA county. any and all information would be greatly appreciated. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not turn this into a slam fest for go do BLS then Medic school etc. give me all the heads up and advice u would like, but do not start bashing other advice people give me, id much rather have constructive critism. Thanks a lot PS: any information on getting some sort of financial aid or vocation grants/loans would be amazing. ill take any and all tips
