  1. So, I'm taking the ITLS course this weekend. I haven't done ITLS since I finished my EMT education 4 years ago, and I honestly don't remember anything about the course itself.

For those of you who have completed your ITLS recently, what did you think of the course? Was the written portion difficult? Is the scenario portion complicated, with a lot of interventions required? Any advice to give me about the process as a whole?

Same as BTLS. Do the home study, remember DCAP-BTLS blah blah lah, it's simple. =P~ :albino:

  2. Micheal, you are completely missing the point. It doesn't matter one iota how awesome or inept a basic is. He's still just a helper and not a partner. He still forces me to assume complete responsibility for every patient, without ever getting a break. Worse yet, he forces me to assume responsibility for his performance, as well as my own. There is nothing of significant value that he brings to the table with his 120 hours of training. In fact, he adds more work than he performs.

You're still just basically saying, "EMTs are better than nothing", which isn't a very glowing endorsement.

What I need is a PARTNER, not a helper. The difference it makes on how quickly I, or any other medic, burns out is incredible. Basic partners is one significant contributor to paramedic turnover, resulting in the unstable workforce that results in our remaining low-wage, blue-collar labourers instead of medical professionals. You can't have a profession and have 3-week night school labourers too. You have to choose which one you want. But if you choose to staff your EMS with EMTs, then I don't want to hear you whining about low wages and no respect, because you are the reason why.

    Well said!

  3. I'm not sure what's worse, the actual FDNY or other departments that ride the "Hero"coat tails of FDNY. But I guess it is dangerous work eating tubs of ice cream and dropping the soap in the showers at the fire house......lets not forget the risk of sleep apnea whilst waiting for "The big one", and I don't mean the rookie sneaking into the Captains quarters...

  4. First off I would like to thank Dust for setting me straight. I apologize for the stupid post. It was only meant to stir up some discussion. I really did not think anyone would really think I was serious. As far as what a "Raped Ape" looks like, I'm not sure. Kinda like a half f**ked fox in a forest fire.......

I'm sorry for the immature post.

  5. I think people forget that EMT's and Paramedics are special people and we should work towards good pt. care and out comes. It's not about ALS/BLS, we all share the same skills. I have been an EMT for 3 years and my skill level is very high! I read and research tons of material. I am good at what I do,and many paramedics think I am special. I have a gift. I started at least 3 IV's in 2 months. I know what I'm doing.
