  1. Thanks for all the advise all. Great info. I am done with my emt course and have ride alongs this week. 3 ride alongs 2 with IFT's and 1 with a 911 Cole Schaefer. So, guess I'll see during the ride alongs what catches my interest most and go for it. Thanks again.
  2. Hey, almost done with class, and the decision is coming up on where to work. I'm wondering how many of you currently work with a 911 carrier and how do you like it? Same question goes to those who work with IFT's and how do you like it. Thanks.
  3. I really enjoyed the first thread and thought some of you may have updated stories. Also please feel free to include the strangest things your patients have told you they have seen or heard Thanks.
  4. We are in class today and my teacher states that per the national registry we do not put ice on snake bites. Can anyone tell me why this is the case? What are the possible physiological effects?
  5. He he, I notice allot of regulars here, just was wondering how many of you post while @ work?
  6. One of my instructors has told me that in Cali, we can expect to only get time and a half after 40 hours. So if you work two 24's (48 hours) you will only get paid 8 hours of time and a half. Is this true for most of ya? -Jay
  7. Was just curious of the difference from emt to paramedic payscale. I'm still going to do it. I am doing it because I have been in the insurance industry for a long time and want a change. I had been contemplating on helping homeless shelters and still will try and volunteer my time, but I want to do this because I like helping people. Kinda like I guess why some people will become teachers. I don't mind doing overtime to make up for the lack of pay as I want to do this. But, I will at least go to paramedic school after and consider making this career. But I am thankful for everyones input thus far. All the information is good. And I'm really happy everyone has given input. But I know that I want to do this. I really want to help people out there.
  8. Well, I live in California, Pasadena. I recently lost my job and my fiance is pregnant. A ROP class has opened up and wanted to do emt then paramedic, and after paramedic go to school for RN. =)
  9. 1. Just curious, what do emt's make vs paramedics? 2. As a paramedic, what work can you do if any in a actual hospital? 3. I have read about 24 hour shifts available. Does that mean when there is downtime you can sleep at your ambulance station or does it literally mean you have to be awake for 24 hours straight? Thanks in advance.
