  1. There is also Cyfair EMS......they pay pretty good and they have a great medical director!!! I worked for them about 4 yrs ago.
  2. Does anyone have a copy of History of Modern EMS ver. 2.0 that they can burn for me??? I am in extreme need of a copy. Thanks!!!!
  3. Marty, I don't think I ever questioned the education or knowledge of a RN. I was being questioned about my knowledge as a Paramedic. I have not once questioned anyone's knowledge. I am not the one attacking anyone's education or knowledge, I am the one being attacked. I truly don't have to prove myself to anyone and no one will make me question myself in the ability to do my job with the best patient care. And no one here on this site, in my opinion, has the right to say they are better than the other when they don't know that person. Would it surprise you that I have a Bachelor's Degree in Biology? And why does that surprise you? Why is it that people, such as some of you on this site, think you can sit and judge people by what paramedic program they have taken when they don't know anything about the person past that? Its just sad that some people need to talk down to others to make themselves look or feel better. Really, what is the point in telling someone that they are not "as good" as someone else? Does it make you feel like a better paramedic, a better RN, or a better person?
  4. How can you sit there and say that I am not as good as you?? You have never seen me work or even know who the hell I am! How self centered are you guys? I have taken the more in depth classes....most 2 yr programs incorporate A&P...well, I have taken A&P! I have taken many classes that were prereqs for the 9 month class. Its not like the only college credits I have are the EMT-B class and the Paramedic class. So again, how in the hell can you tell me that I am less "educated" than you? So before you sit there and tell people that you are smarter than they are, learn more about the person's education. And trust me I have met plenty of Paramedics that took a 2 yr program that I wouldn't let touch my dog much less a family member!
  5. For more information you can contact Don Royder at 979-458-4366. He is the program director and that is his office number. I'm sure he would love to speak with anyone about his program. So because I went through a 9 month program are you saying that I am less of a medic than anyone who goes through a 2 yr program?
  6. The class is actually 15 weeks then clinicals. TEEX also has a 9 month course, which was the same length my class was at Blinn College. I really didn't mean to start a debate or for anyone to basically start telling me that I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. I know some pretty damn good medics that have taken the TEEX programs.
  7. My husband went throught the two month program and it was not that bad. He also had me helping him. If you have the right instructor you can learn the materials.
  8. Wow!!! The areas these guys are telling you to look are extremely far from Katy. There are several 9-1-1 ambulance service that you could work for as an EMT and then move on to Medic. Try Cyfair EMS and Cypress Creek EMS. Also, since you are in Katy you could even try Sealy, I think that is Austin Co EMS main office in Belleville. You could even look at Washington Co EMS in Brenham. I have also been told that the EMS service in Tomball is pretty good. Have you found a EMT class? I know that Cypress Creek EMS puts on a pretty good class, Cyfair College, and the best (in my opinion) is TEEX in College Station. The director at TEEX is Don Royder and if you want the number just shoot me an message. I now live in Missouri but moved here from the Hwy 290/Hwy 6 area and I worked for Cyfair EMS for a time and for Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center in the ER for 2 1/2 yrs. So if you have any questions about just about anything in that area let me know. My brother is also a Sgt with Harris Co. Sheriffs Department
  9. Long, long ago I worked for Rural Metro that was in Bastrop Co. and the most beautiful thing ever is to transport a patient to Brakenridge (I think thats how you spell it) at night and walk out of the ER and look at the Capital Building, espeically if it is a full moon behind it. I also worked for an outpatient radiology clinic in Austin. Traffic sucks as it does in any large city but I also worked 9-1-1 in Houston and would rather drive the traffic in Austin any day!
  10. I agree that you have to look at on a call by call situation. The area that I work in we only staff two ambulances and we are approx 12 miles apart. We have one female per shift so if a female sexual assault happens there can be a female in the back with the patient, and it isn't always going to be a medic. Luckily my FF doesn't have a scanner at her house to know who is working but I think she knows what docs are on duty to give her the narcs she wants! I also agree that if a patient has time to care who is going to be in the back of the ambulance taking care of them then they can get in their POV and drive! By the time the other ambulance gets to their house we would be half way to the hospital. It just blows my mind how some people think they can pick and choose in an emergency. A true emergency means....GET ME TO THE HOSPITAL NOW!!! In the case of Carlos they could always request that someone, a firefighter, drive or a friend rides in the back with them.... Be safe out there!!!
  11. I am trying to find a schedule calculator. I know there is one out there, I've even used it before but now I can't find it!!! Any help would be great!!!!!
  12. I worked in Houston TX around the time of Katrina. It was a mad house with everyone trying to leave at one time!!! People were dying in their cars and family members just laying them on the side of the road and leaving!!! How in GOD'S name can people do that!?!?!?!?!? I now live in Missouri but have a true Texas girl at heart so with all my heart I thank you for your dedication and your help!!!
  13. I work what is called in Missouri the "Kelley Shift" that is 24 on, 24 off, 24 on, 24 off, 24 on, and 4 days off. I think someone said "its like a mini vacation every week" unless you are like me and work an other EMS job on your days off. I got to work this morning and won't go home again until Tuesday night, if I don't pick up an extra 12 hrs then I won't be home until Thursday!!!
