  1. i was wanting every ones opinions. i work for a service who only allows the bls ambulance to do discharges and lift assist calls. they can only take emergency calls if all the als trucks are out on calls or transfers, which is very rare. my questions is, do you think emt-basics lose what they are taught or skills if they don't use them. please give me your feed back. thank you
  2. does anyone know where i can find a paramedic refresher class? i live in illinois and would like to find a refresher class soon. It doesnt have to be in illinois but if i could find one close that would be great. please please help me
  3. my first emergency run was very interesting. the service i work for has 2 stations, the one i happen to be working for is approx. 13 miles from the hospital. im nervous and eager when the tone goes off and the dispatcher says pt not breathing and no pulse. we get on scene to find, thankfully, there is a paramedic on scene who also called 911. OH yea i forgot to tell you that the medic i was with just got his medic license. we took over cpr, got the pt in the ambulance, started the iv and did the appropriate skills and went enroute to the hospital. the medic i was working with called for an intercept from the other station. Mind you i was new and niave and was totally clueless about intercepts. when the ambulance stopped for the other buses medic to jump on i jumped out of the drivers seat and ran to the back when the driver of the other ambulance( who is my husband lol) asked me what the hell i was doing and told me to get back in the truck and drive. i was so nervous and anxious about the call i didnt realize until after we arrived at the hospital that the pt who coded was a friend of my dads and i had known for several years. even though you may think you are prepared for anything your really not. relax and learn from everything you do. you will make crazy and very interesting mistakes, we all do ( some just don't want to tell their mistakes). have fun and good luck!
  4. The cause of the wreck is unknown and will be for a long time if ever known. my husband and i have met both Sandra and Roger. They were wonderful people and our prayers are with the families and friends. My opinion only but I think we need to think more about the families then the crash and how it happened.
  5. the service i work for is looking into power cots. we like the strykers but have been introduced to a power cot named powermed x by monstermedic. we have never heard of them and was wondering if anyone on here has worked with them or knows anything about them. please give me your opinion on them. we would like to get information on then from people who have worked with them versus just from the company who makes them. thank u
  6. im trying to read everyones reply and yet i cant find where anyone has mentioned the H's and T's. If you know the H's and T's then you would understand why you use D50 during a refactory cardiac arrest
  7. Im also a mother of 4, working 2 jobs, and in the medic class. On top of all that i find out that my husband of ten years has been cheating on me. i have the stress of all that and still passing my class. Im in the final semester of class and have no intentions of quitting now. Not everyone in the medic class or in ems sleeps around by the way. Some of us have self control. Reguardless of the stress i have found that you can look towards friends for support during stressful and hard times. I also have to be thankful for the wonderful instructors i have in being supportive and pushing me through my hard times
  8. [align=left]I work for a private service and yes we are part of the ems systems. we take all 911 calls in this county. Im not thrilled with the owners. they like to cut corners and cost but thats cuz they are private and don't get the funding. I do like working here and like the people i work with. it would be nice to have good up to date equipment but that doesn't always happen. in ems we are taught to work with what we have and compensate
