  1. Hate it, was a PITA to navigate through! The website and the downloaded program navigate totally differently and it really makes the learning curve at first really difficult. Additionally, if you transport to an odd facility that is not in their directory, good luck leaving a report at the ER. And the search for facilities is very odd. Our local hospital is "Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital". But searching by ANY of the key words in the name, brough up nothing, but when you chose to browse by state, chose Texas and scrolled down to the H section, there it was, in alphabetical order.

Was just very difficult to navigate through.

I have experience with intermedix also and they are FAR superior in my humble opinion.

  2. As the former Tri-anim Rep for SW Texas, I sold a LOT of the MedSource bags. I also used this particular bag as my demo bag for about 4 years, which was stuffed and carried into every account I visited and so did my husband, the Tri-anim SE Texas Rep. We used one for our trail ride first aid bag, and I have one of the MedSource coated canvas large trauma bags for my equine first aid kit. The guys that run the company guarantee the bags and if you ever have problems, you simply send in the broken one and they will fix or replace it at no cost to you, except maybe shipping. They usually just replace them. MedSource is a GREAT company with nice products at reasonable prices. (By the way, I NEVER had one come back in for repair)

The 4 inches can really help when you are trying to stuff a couple of c-collars in the bag. The back outside pocket (the side you don't see in the picture) runs pretty much the full length of the bag, so works well for collars and flat-style head immobilizers. The front two pockets are great for glucometers and bandaging stuff like 4 x 4's, tape, ABD pads, etc. The dividers on the inside attach with velcro so you can change the dimensions of the compartments, or you can remove them all together. Besides, we all know that the bigger the bag, the more stuff we will jam into it... 4 more inches equals more stuff!

I don't know much about LA Gear, although I had a couple of customers that had them and loved them, too.

Good luck with your purchase! Oh, and for the record, I am not in sales anymore so I have no vested interest in what bag you choose, I am just very familiar with the MedSource one and really like them.

Ordered the medsource bag. The fact that it comes in ReD was also a factor LoL

  3. Im looking into a new jump bag and have it narrowed down to two choices:

    http://www.gomedsource.com/dxo2bag.html

    http://www.buyemp.com/product/11230622.html

    AND

    http://www.buyemp.com/product/1070102.html

Ive had and used LA Rescue bags before and am familiar with their construction and quality (VERY GOOD BTW), but know nothing about medsource bags. from the pictures ive found online, http://mobil-medic.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=46 (click on more images link under the pic) they appear to be made well also.

so, who has used either of these bags?

the medsource im wondering if its a little cumbersome being longer and taller, or do those extra 4" make a difference?

  4. This is a 20 minute exercise for your cities lowest paid lawyer. I'll bet that if your city asked their attorney to do this he would be able to do it with his/her eyes closed.

You don't need a example from us, just tell that city attorney what you need and you can probably wait outside their office and get it the same day.

that was my impression but the city said they wanted to get one from somewhere to use as a template. im just trying to help them out 'cause the faster we get this legal BS outta the way, the faster we get enrolled and start the class.

  5. The city I work for is going to put me and another FF through medic

school. The city wants us to sign a contract saying we'll stay for X

amount of time after we have the red patch, or we have to pay $X, and

    the amount will be pro-rated.

What they're wanting is a copy of a contract that we can "tweak" so we

don't have to write it from scratch.

Was wondering if anyone here could provide me with a sample contract.

PM me for my e-mail address if needed.

    Thanks

  6. But the tablets come in round tubes or large bottles. Also comes in fruit flavored drinks called gluco shots, gum, spray, and dissolving strips I think.

    Looks like butter.

they also come in "6 individually wrapped chewable tablets", like in the picture.

  7. I could have sworn there was a legal discussion forum, but anyway.

Anyhow, I got some flack for filling out a pt. care report the other day with my blue pen. The hospital I worked at required the docs to use blue ink on the T-sheets. The reasoning is that the forms are printed in black ink on white paper and black pen ink could be missed (especially all those damn check boxes) where as blue is easily seen and photocopies just as well, plus it is easy to tell which is the original. ALSO, everywhere I have been, even on state forms for DL and LP, it states BLACK OR BLUE INK ONLY.

back to the original question, do any of your services not accept blue ink and require black ink only?

    What do you think?

  8. http://intermedix.org/

you can either type up the report at the station or you can have them supply you with tablets and do the report in real time like a paper one. the tablet comes with a cell wireless internet card and you can type in the pt's SSN or DL # and it brings up all demographics. they also get alot of money. we love em

also, the tablets are THEIRS and THEY replace 'em if they break. a service near us uses 'em and one guy put the tablet behind the seat when they went to eat, partner drove back and was taller, so he went to put the seat all the way back and smashed the screen. they overnighted a new one.

the reports are stored on their servers as well so you can start a report on the tablet and finish on the computer at the station or home, where ever you have internet access.

also, it faxes the report to the facility as soon as youre finished.

  9. I've got one of their fire hose FOM shirts and its AWESOME, tough as nails, but very warm, would suck for summers here in Texas, but yes the material is soft and very durable and their shirts & pants are made to fit very comfortably.

  10. Ive played with em and i dont like em. i can start lines just fine without one.

I agree that in an ambulance where you cannot control the ambient light, it would have a lower degree of usefulness.

whats to keep you from turning lights off in the back?

  11. It doesn't have to be ebay US, other countries have no legislation regarding RED lights. Blue is the no no colour here in Ireland and in the UK. You will have no prob getting red lights from the UK as they have no "meaning" over there. You will find cheap LEDs and hideaway stobes easily.

holy crap, i never thought of that! thanks!!

  12. I don't know why any service would "require" their membership to have lights on their POV's, especially since they're commonly courtesy lights (like here in Connecticut) and doesn't allow anyone to operate as an emergency vehicle or to disregard any traffic laws. It seems like increased liability for zero gain to me. But if it's what makes them happy...good luck in your search.

    NREMT-P

    I don't live in Connecticut!!

ReD, sometimes you can find a good deal on eBay. This site has decent prices for new stuff. http://www.strobesnmore.com/

I have corner stobes (front and rear) and a Whelen Talon dual LED dash light on my truck. At times, I respond directly to a scene. This light package is especially helpful when I use the truck to block traffic. Rarely do I use my lights. The fire department is less than a mile from my house.

    Shayne

i didnt think e-bay could sell red lights, i'll have to check that out then!

  13. ...what other reason couild you possibly have for want lights on your POV?

i am a firefighter here in a small town, and we are asked, if possible, to respond to calls on our days off. POVs are NOT allowed on scenes, we respond to the station. It's not in writing, but its pretty much required to have lights on POV to respond to the station for calls, no sirens, just lights.

Also, im not looking to light my truck up like an ambulance, just a light for my winshield. Ive been looking at the GALLS LED light that velcros to your visor. i want something non permanent and not easily detectable when it's not on. only thing about the flip down visor light is the reflection of the lights at night. i like the light bars that go inside the vehicle at the top of the winshield that are almost undetectable, but the $500 price tag is a bit much. om looking to spend $100 at most, but i want the most bang for my buck. thus, looking for the most inexpensive LED company, which brings me here, explaining why i need the lights and what i do for a living, and how far away from the station i live.

  14. i think its funny how all of you assume you know what my purpose for wanting lights is, and why i would need them. these needless and un-asked for opinions are just a waste of time, all i asked was a simple question about the names of some companies. why do you care what the reasoning is that im looking into lights, and why should i listen to your biased opinions?

if you don't have something to say, then keep your fingers off of the keyboard.

this place has really gone down hill, when i first started coming here, people were nice to each other and helped one another out. now, it seems that everyone tries to belittle everyone who asks a simple question, or try and give reasons why theyre better than everyone else or a smarter/better provider. save it, we dont want to read it.

admin might as well lock this thread, as it has become a waste of time.

  15. www.needlights.com is a decent site for lights.

dahlio, he asked a simple question and wanted a simple anwser, why did you feel the need to rant ? If you didn't want to anwser the question why not just ignore the thread ? It's annoying on here when people ask a simple question and then everyone goes into a stupid rant. Maybe his job requires having lights, and he doesn't seem to be over doing it, he said he just wants something cheap and bright.

    thanks.

the ranting around here is the reason why i dont stop by much anymore, as well as the general opinion that firefighters are idiots.

  16. aside from galls, code 3 and whelen, are there any other quality companies that make LED emergency lights?

im looking for some simple LEDs to hide in my rear window and either in the grill or in my winshield on the front of my truck.

no light bars or anything squirrely like that. also looking into wig wag high beams and maybe an alternating flasher for my brake & reverse lights.

these LEDs just get so expensive so fast, they've been out long enough for many different places to start making them, im just looking for someone that has them cheap & bright!

    thanks.

  17. AMR in dallas has a retro fitted ambulance that they have ramps on and a winch at the base of the captains chair and a modified stryker.

i like the ramp idea, maybe rear door that comes down as a ramp like a small cargo trailer or a pull out ramp like on a u-haul truck. the lift aspect is really expensive and heavy and just alor more engineering to the truck which = more money.

you could retro fit or make one new for not much more that has ramps on it, and then just a regular powered stryker would work. if the pt isnt too heavy, load them the normal way, if they're too heavy, lower the cot all the way while on the ground and push it up the ramp, and if still too heavy, the AMR winch idea is pretty good, but a come-a-long would work just as well.

  18. I posted this here because B&S is a BLS skill but I would like ALS opinions as well.

I was looking through a European EMS catalog and in their burn dressing section that have what looks like plastic wrap for burns. The description is as follows:

    BURN-KLING

    • An approved and accepted burn dressing

    • Widely used for burns treatment by

Ambulance Services and Hospital Burns Units

    • A simple but effective way to protect a burn

    • No special training is required

    • Still allows the burn to be cooled by

traditional methods - while Burn Kling is in place

    • Prevents loss of moisture from the burn

    • Hygienic dispenser available

    what are yall's thoughts?
