  1. After 15yrs I worked the vollies, privates and NYC-EMS (the good old green and white days) and now FDNY-EMSC. I've worked with good people and bad people. Honestly I don't care who you work for as long as you do your job well. I had good BLS back up from the private side and bad BLS back up from the FDNY side. We all take a state exam so what makes people bad at pt. care is laziness for the most part. I have no problems with the private guys nor does any Medic I ever worked with. The only problem I have is those damn type II buses are too small, LOL!
  2. I've been with EMS for 15yrs and I became burnt at 5-7yrs. After that I grown to love the job once more and treat all my patients as if they are my own family. If you work for a large system with a high call volume chances are you'll become burnt out eventually. The unfortunate thing is that some rookies think it is fashionable to act burnt out. A lot of it depends on the system you work for to include the neighborhood, support system within your service and most important your own family support. It's easy for a new person to say I love this job and I'll never become burnt out but brother after you experience the worst in humanity like 9/11 you really can't say never. I can tell you that I've come to respect the job and that's what keeps me ticking.
