  1. 1 ALS per response vehicle or Intermediate life support, Ambulances (2 ems members) usaully BLS same times ILS.
  2. Just to make sure you understand Freaknuggetz_chick when I say responds vehicle I mean VW Golf/JETTA GTI /FSI, Toyaota Corolla QUICK AND FAST and can not transport pt, so I drive from call to call if need be.
  3. Hi I am Riaan a E.C.P. - A (paramedic) from South Africa, been part of ems for the last 12 years. Hope to meet people that understand "hard core" rural ems if one can put it in such a way (all specialized care very very far away and every thing you do does make a difference)!
  4. Heaven, thats what it sounds like in some other places! I am the only ALS paramedic and drive a response vehicle work from 7:30 in the morning until 16:30 ongoing from mon. to fri.(standby after 16:30 until next morning every day, standby 24hrs weekend and every 2nd weekend off from 16:30(fri) until mon. 7:30). What happens is I respond to all emergency calls (collapse cases to m.v.a.'s etc.) asses pt/s and assist when pt/s need ALS assistance or when I administered meds. I do assist when in hosp confirm ICU transfer or red code pt transfer (ALS).
  5. Hi all, I am from South Africa and a E.C.P - A (Paramedic) and R.M.I. when given Nitro can kill pt. I work in rural era and the closest cardiac center is 3 and half hour drive and flight time a hour plus. When you have a cardiac pt we have set protocols as how to treat, the fact that you were 45min away from hosp does not change the fact that as a medic you treat to the best of your ability and when in doubt you ask! I was not on scene but as a paramedic in a province with almost no paramedic's you do your basic's and make a diagnosis on your findings and treat accordingly. I would have started as the medic from down under with high concentration of O2 which funny enough is the BEST treatment and I am not sure how your qulifications work but even if you are not allowed to place I.V.'s he as a paramedic have a number of different sites for IV placement surely. emtgirl84, I have noted that when one asks a lot of questions (why ?, ) the medics we work with are careful and stays updated! Yes I know that not all medics including paramedics like lower qualified personnel telling us but you will see a change in your partner just same advice. Please understand it is only my opinion but I think that because we work with people that does not stay current or attend updates which there skills get tested and they have to pass the exams the above mentioned will keep on happening.
