    AED

Thats even scarier than my story. I wonder how they would justify that in court if someone found out that they had the neccessary equipment to save someone's life but couldn't save them because it was "too expensive"?
  2. This may be a stupid question but it is one that have asked a lot of people about and no one could answer. I am unable to find any info about it on the internet. Why is there no ventricular escape beat or a junctional escape beat when someone goes into sinus arrest? It makes sense to me that if the SA node didn't fire that the rest of the hearts automaticity would take over and there would be some type of junctional or ventricular beat.

    AED

Very true. She tried to justify why she did it by saying that the patient was in asystole and therefore the AED wouldn't defib anyway. But there was 3 or 4 minutes between the time we called the code (pt had unknown downtime) and the arrival of the medics. I tried to explain to her that he could have went from v-fib to asystole in that amount of time. She just looked at me like I didn't know what I was talking about since I was just an "ambulance driver".

    AED

At one of the facilities that I used to work at we had an AED but there was only 3 people on staff that were actually trained in using it. We did have a guy code on us one day and the nurse that I was working (the nurse was running the code because I worked there in a non-ems role) was ACLS certified but refused to use the AED even when I suggested it multiple times. So I guess even having one is no guarantee that it will ever do any good.
