  1. This is so typical of NR. Nobody up there seems to understand their own friggin' policies, pulling answers out of their arses when people call needing serious advice.

You need both. You need a 48 hour refresher and current ACLS and PHTLS (or ITLS, if you must) certs.

The NR website sucks, and really shouid have a search feature since it is so poorly organised.

Consequently, it's really hard to find this, so save it for future reference:

    Thanks, that helps

    Good luck!

  2. Just went through this process not long ago ! Anyhow, you have to have someone able to check off your skills that they are adequate for practical (ie your training officer, med director, etc) but is most easily accomplished through the 48 hour refresher - just have them sign off for ya. Then you have the option of either completing a formal 48 hour refresher, OR continuing ed within the hours needed. I'm not for sure, but with your certs you may be able to cover all your hours. Then just go and sit for your test. Pretty simple and painless actually.

    Thanks!!!

  3. Hi All-

I haven't posted for awhile and I don't know if I am in the right forum but I could use some help.

I have been a Fire/Medic for 16 years at a paid dept. and have recently decided that I would like to get my Registry back. I called NR and talked to one person who said that I needed to complete a 40 hour refresher and then re-take the exam and practicals which is fine but then I called back to ask another question and a different person said that with my ITLS, ACLS and PALS that that would be sufficient and that I could sit for the exams with that. I wondered if anyone has dealt with this and could let me know which is right.

    Thanks alot!

  4. So long as you are current, there is probably little chance that you would have to go back to school, except maybe in those states that require a degree (if you don't already have one). Probably the worst you will face in most states would be a 1 to 3 month long bureaucracy of giving them more and more paperwork and money until they finally either give you reciprocity, or in some states, simply allow you to take their test.

As Mike says, this is going to be very specific to both the state you are petitioning and your educational background, so you will need to contact those states' EMS office to be certain what will apply to you.

    Best of luck!

    Thanks All!!

Dustdevil, if you are overseas please stay safe. My kids pray for all of you every night

  5. Hi all-

I am brand new to the forum and wanted to jump right in with a question that maybe you all can answer for me. I have googled this without a good answer so here goes...

I went to medic school 15 years ago and have worked in my home state, Ohio, since then.

My wife has had some extensive medical problems and I am not sure that we may not have to relocate someday possibly to another state for further treatment. I know that each state will have different rules for reciprocity but is thaere a chance that I will have go to medic school again or do other states usually accept your diploma and then mandate either registry or challenge their state exam?

This may seem like a dumb question and if it has been posted before, please refer me to it.

    Thanks

    Stay Safe
