EMT Recert question for NJ

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I emailed the State of NJ and 2 EMT Training facilities and received no response from anyone. Anyway........

My issue is that I attended EMT Training and received my State Certification in 2000. I volunteered my time at the local ambulance squad weekly until I found new employment, which conflicted with my shift. The job required all my time pretty much on a 24hr on call basis. I unfortunately and regrettably allowed my EMT certification to expire and never pursued to reinstate it.

I recently re-evaluated my employment situation and really would like to recertify my EMT license in NJ. It's been a few years since the expiration and was wondering what course of action I need to take to get back into things. I have been told by people that I need to take the entire course over, I was told I need to just take the refresher and State Exam, etc. I was hoping that somebody had a more definant answer and could guide me in the right direction.

I would like to jump on this ASAP as there are recert courses coming in Sept, if thats the way I need to go. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Chris

Your email most likely wound up in somebody's spam folder. The one to the State is most likely now part of a huge back log after the state was shut down for a week earlier this month. Try contacting the State EMS office by phone and talking to a real person. Or contact your old volly squad and talk to the training officer there. I'm sure both would have a better grasp on what the requirements are than what you would find from an anonymous poster on an anonymous internet forum.

-be safe.

Hi there,

Try calling the DOH EMS division for a definitive answer.

Based on my experience with colleages, if your EMT expired less than a year ago, you can simply do the refresher and take the test.

If your EMT expired longer than a year, you'll need to take the entire course over again.

But, again, call the office rather than emailing...Here's the main number, (609) 292-7837
