National Registry, Need it or no?

In order for me to be able to get into the medic class and stay in it, I have to have at the very least my NREMT for EMT-B/NREMT-I. I get to renew it in March of 2012, only to get to pay for the NREMT-P a few months later when I graduate Medic.

Since we can't predict the future with any degree of accuracy, my suggestion is go ahead and renew it. Michigan's rumor mill has been running rampant for many years about the 'changes coming down the pike'. (I direct you to the rumor that MI was eliminating the EMT-S license level....that one's only been circulating for the last 20 years or so).

If you're REALLY concerned about it, call Department of Consumer Affairs in Lansing and get the word from the horse's mouth instead of listening to a bunch of the 'other ends'....

Renew it, TRUST ME ON THIS!!!!!!!!! I speak from experience. I let mine lapse. I went and got it again after 8 years without. It was a horrible time for me as I had forgotten the registry way and failed 4 stations.

Took a refreszher geared towards the registry for dummies crowd and passed but it cost me time, aggravation and 1100.00 to do it.

I do not have it now as I am semi retired from ems doing healthcare on a different tact but we thought about moving and we were sort of pigeonholed into non registry states.

Personally I think that it should be all or none. Either have a national licensing agency or require all states to be registry. Again all or none.

So from someone who let it lapse and then went back to get it after 8 years, it was definately easier to keep rather than retake.

Do what you will but in my opinion you will regret it if you let it lapse. Maybe not now, maybe not tomorrow but you will and for the rest of your life.

Ok ok. I watched casablanca last night.

Renew it like most of us say

Thanks for all the responses. I will be renewing it for sure. The cost of maintaining it seems lower than the cost of re-certing. Especially now that I work for a company that offers free CE's and tuition reimbursement. I WAS happy to be able to transfer via reciprocity when I moved to Kentucky. Thanks for the input everyone.
