  1. I got mine. Not only do I want to lessen my chances of getting sick, remember flu shot doesn't work on ALL strains, but I want to lessesn my chances of being a carriers of the flu and passing it on to my co-workers and patients.

  2. Working in the ER as a secretary affords a lot of "study" time. Especially when I have to ask the docs what we are looking for in an Xray for example, or when the orthopedist makes me find the fracture in the Xray. I get the see the work of three really good fire departments worth of medics (like the field trach marshal did last tuesday).

And Yes for all you "oldies" here I am back. It might take me a while to get back up to par with how I used to post, but I am back.

  3. I know this sounds weird, but even if you do not get the job... send a thank-you card for allowing you to interview with their service. This leaves a professional appearance.. and a lasting memory, if you re-apply.

    Good luck to all....

My dad is a Worker Profiler for the ORegon Employment Job, His main job is to assist people who teh system deems will be hard to place in a job in teh field they just got laid off from. He has told me repeatedly that the thank you note is one of the most important things you can do for yourself in the process of finding a job.

  4. I wish the lift test I had to retake involved an actual gurney. But no, they have to use a barbell that is suppose to simulate lifting a gurney, so they say. Hello with a gurney the weight all goes out in front of you, with a barbell it is all out to the side.

Anyway the one I had to take. The barbell is on a rack 1 foot off the ground, you have to lift it an additional 3 feet (total of 4). Start with the 45 pounds that equal the bar and add on weights until you reach 110lbs. There is an occupational therapist watching you to make sure you use perfect ergonomic lifting form. It's not so bad if you are tall, all you have to do is stand up, those of us who are short (myself) have to give it a little more (bicep curl or arm raise), standing on tip toes is not allowed. ANd there is no stopping in teh middle and readjusting your grip like you can do with a gurney.

  5. Hey everyone!

  8. thanks bandaid patrol. Nice thought, but not quite reality. At least not in my world. Talk about career suicide - that would be it.

Like I said, in two months I get a break. I am also going to hire some help for my at home duties. Expensive yes, worth it, yes.

If I feel the racing heart thing again, to the Dr. I will go. I am not up to being a statistic.

The Holter Monitor isn't THAT bad, I know I bitched about it, but hey i was complainging about being 21 and on it. You diffenately need those mental health days a little sooner then 2 months from now. Trust me, I put it off for a little over two months before going in to see the doc.

  9. Well If I had read it then I'm sure I'd know all the things you told me I am supposed to know.

But like I said, I'm speaking in regard to what I've heard. Not what I've read. Hence my saying "that's what I've heard", not "that's what I read"

    -Trevor

That was in reference to SHP, I was just including yours because it was also mentioned in the article. And from what I have hears, It is in the new Recomendations that come out in like August or September, teh 50:2 ratio will be there. Don;t expect it on a test until sometime next spring though is what I heard

  10. That's what I've heard as well. Plus the inherent reduction in risk of gastric distention/aspiration.

I'll follow whatever protocol is proven* (*IOW currently touted as the best in the most recent and comprehensive studies..this is always subject to change and there are truly no absolutes) to yield the best outcomes with the highest consistencies.

    -Trevor

If you read the full article you would also know that the reasoning is that the cells needed to actually get the heart to start pumping on it's own (ATP) aren't being activated until about compression 15, and then quickly die off when compressions stop. You would also know that the RECOMENDATION is to switch compressionproviders every two minutes, because as it is we are losing our effectiveness as compressions anyway.

The articlealso says the Ratio will be50:2,not one as was mentioned. Remember there are all Recomendations, It is still up to your dept to write teh protocal around it.

  11. Well we will see how many times I post about eating right adn working out again before I actually start doing it.

Anyway, If I am to get hired by the agency here I need to retake their lifting phase. So I guess it is back to healthy eating and the gym I go.

  12. Well it is official that I am out of shape. I had the physical fit test for Rural Metro ambulance. Turns out I couldn't lift enought (big surprise there, most of the women who tested are having to redo the lifting portion).

So I guess we all know what I will be working on for a little while now

  13. Hi , I would like to get some ideas, and feed back about how you write your narrative on your PCR or PR ? also doing telemetry? Do you have a certain system or mnemonic that you go by ?

By telemetry are you actually trying to ask for a format for giveing radio reports to the hospital (HEAR reports) to let them know what you bringing?

  14. Days off, What do you do?

Please tell me that is a before picture. Cause if that an after picture, I don;t wanna go with you, that not muddy enough.

  15. I actually had a very good Lecture on Capnography presented to my medic class by one of the local fire cheifs who is a paramedic. There some very interesting things breing brought out about it. Such as using it as a tool to help call codes in the field, and actually how it helps in predicting where the code is going. The paticular benefit is in PEA there where actually be a rise in the ETCO2 before you get pulses back. You get teh initial rise when you intubate, and then there will be another rise just before pulses return,.
