  1. At least she was minty fresh.

I haven't noticed that problem here, our few urban outdoorspersons still drink real alcohol.

When I was young (before I got rich working EMS), I worked security at a mall. Many times we caught, or took reports on people stealing Nyquil.

Minty fresh? in London we have a number of regular urban outdoorsmen who regular abuse mouthwash and "minty fresh" isn't a term I would use to describe them.

Some one further up stated that some bottles of booze are cheaper and he doesn't know why they would choose mouthwash? Around here some are quite well known to the liquor stores and cant purchase it, so there options are limited.

  2. Hay Scaramedic, I can relate to that story. Worked as a brick layer for a few years and had to replace brick in rotery kiln once, payed double time, but conditions sucked.

Picked up naked striper once with back spasams, Yes a pole was involved.

Had a guy a a flooring plant pull a skid of wood out of a kiln, cable snaped and struck him across the chest and neck. Through him 10 feet across room and down into a sevice pit full of pipes.

He dropped about 10feet down landing prone. When I went down I only had about 2 feet of width to work in. Partner and I got him on a scoop and lifted him up to about shoulder hight befor any one else could grab on. He wayed about 200 lb, so it wasnt to bad. Did i mention all the hot water pipes that ran down the length of the pit?

After we got him out we were both covered in Black muddy oil crap (probibly carcinogenic) and were pulled out of service to clean up.

Saw the patent about a month later wearing a halo and about 30 stiches to close lac to neck

  3. Not in the back of a land ambulance, but i have been in a crash while inside a plane. That wasn't fun, and is what determined for me to return to land-based EMS.

Just out of curiosity, how bad was the SOB for the patient if you decided to return on a 4?

    Hi Lithium

Pt spo2 on room air 85%, decreased air to bases with insp|exp wheezes in mid and upper lobes, 3-5 word dispnia

Spo2 came up to 93 after first Ventolin, after second Ventolin spo2 98% and speaking normally, but developed basal crackles on left side.

  4. Yesterday we were running code 4 (lightssiren) with a SOB to University hosp. I Had a Ventolin neb running and was leaning forward to listen to the patients chest, when the ambulance swerved to the right. This action caused me to fly into the cabinets next to the patient. I saw lots of pretty lights but no LOC or blood. I still have a nice bump on my head though. Turn out my partner had avoid a collision with a veh. that was trying to pass us...

Just wondering how many others have had accidents in the back. I know someone will ask so... no I was not wearing a seat belt, I was sitting on the edge of the bench reaching for the Pt with stethoscope in hand.

  5. OK since we are all fessing up...It was my first shift as a newly graduated Paramedic and I had to work the night shift with one of my instructors. Well the night was fairly quiet 1 transfer and a local rummy found passed out. At about midnight I decide to have something to eat so I go upstairs in the base so not to disturb anyone in the lounge that's sleeping. I'm sitting there eating when I start to feel a dull pain in my lower back.

I'm thinking that I must have pulled something when we picked up the Rummy earler. The pain is increasing 8/10 dull, mostly on left flank, mild nausea, urge to urinate.....any one see where this is going?

Its now about 1 am and I have to go and find my partner, she is sleeping and I gently wake her with.."I think I need to go to the ER" She of course says what? and I explain That I may have a kidney stone.

Well to make along story short I end up in the ER for the rest of my shift and sent home after a CT and ultra sound.

Boy do I now how to make a good impression, first day on the job.
