  1. It is a tragedy when a well respected person (or anyone for that matter) is caught dipping into the dark side of life. Although my ex-husband wasn't a respected member of the medical community, he was respected by my daughter, his family and myself. When I found out what he had been up to, I was sick inside. Needless to say, he is my ex for that very reason.

My thoughts and heart go out to the victims, spouses, family, and coworkers (they are as well victims). I know only too well how they must be feeling.

  2. I am the secretary for our ambulance. We will be giving out certificates for years of service and I am looking for some appropriate wording for them. I have Googled and can't find anything I like. Does anyone have a certificate like this at home you can reference or share some thoughts on what you think would be a heartfelt thank you for our members? The certificates are parchment paper with traditional certificate design on the boarders.

If I placed this in the wrong section, please accept my apologies and move it to where it needs to be.

    Thanks so much!!

  3. I have never had the situation come up but I can tell you this: I worked too damn hard for my licence to have it taken away. I am working even harder to obtain my Paramedic. I will do almost anything for my patient (short of practicing outside my scope) but how will I serve my other patients when I am still mixing Mojitas at the bar after losing my licencure because of poor decisions?

  4. I have read this before and love it!

Remember this motto to live by: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave

with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved

body. But rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in hand, body thoroughly

used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO what a ride!"

A true testament to the way I live my life.

  5. They made themselves look like morons. You did exactly what you should have done. Now you can look back on this, after you have become a medic, and continue to treat your peers with the utmost respect, because you know better:) Good job, and don't forget to hold your head up a bit higher for knowing you did the right thing!

  6. Well, I wouldn't be so concerned about the score, however if we don't pass, we don't go on to the next semester. I just barely squeaked by, I am ashamed to say. I don't test well and will have to come up with a better strategy for that one. I know the material, I do great on the practical parts but can't test worth a darn. The clincher was that the instructor had given us a point because there was a discrepancy with a question. We were able to prove it and so we were given the extra point. If he hadn't given us the point, I would have failed by one. So, as you can see, I was running the gambit of emotions from thinking I had failed to then realizing I had passed. Ugh.....I will save myself the torture next time and do better and not just get by.

  7. Our instructor took us out for dinner as well after we reveiwed for our state finals. We had a class of 13 people and sadly, I think I am the only one who has stuck it out this long.

As for my Paramedic celebration, I can't allow myself to think that far ahead. I am preparing for finals next week (for 1st semester) and am a wreck. A graduation ceremony is offered but instead of attending, I am hoping to be working as a Paramedic that evening. That would be the best celebration I could possibly give myself.

Good luck next week! Let us know how things go, ok?

  8. What exactly is "normal"?

My normal is XL shirts and whatever size pants I can find that fits. I have no muscle tone in my stomach (too many surgeries) which causes me to have to buy larger pants for comfort in the waistband and have the rest tailored to fit. Many of your EMT's will fall into the size L-XL range because of the way the clothing is cut, and in EMS, it is a rarity for many if you can actually find clothing true to size. I find it important to find clothing that fits, no matter what the label might read.

Now, if you are talking about being overweight and in EMS, that's reserved for another thread. Perhaps it would be helpful to have a forum dedicated to EMS excersise and fitness?
