  1. The problem with that raise is that AMR pays all the surrounding counties 20% to 30% or more. This article leaves alot out, like the contract negotiations quoted pertain to San Joaquin county specifically. AMR came up with a first and final offer just before the contract expired in order to prevent any form of negotiations and to make all the employees at will. As of Friday, I haven't heard anything beyond grumblings of people just wanting strike and there is a possibility that union members in the Bay Area and other Central / Sacramento Valley would be on board if it happened. In our county, 911 would be covered but there would be less cars on the road, I'm sure.

  2. dispatched 4pm 22y/o f sick person. on we climb a steep set of stairs greeted by a guy at the door, there's a female on the bed.

Medic asks "what's going on?, she states "my cervix hurts"

"how do you know it's your cervix?" "I'm really in touch with my body"

"Um... What time did your cervix started hurting?" "midnight last night"

(boy friend starts squirming about this time)

Medic asks "what were you doing last night at midnight?" "we were having sex",

"Can you walk down the stairs to our gurney?" "no"

"Can you stand with our help?" "no"

When we got to the ER she was put in the OB room, closes the door and asked suspiciously

"what is going on with her?" "ummmmmmmmmmm.... (whispering) her boyfriend banged her too hard last night"

Nurse asks "Is he here?" "He said he'll be here, I think he's just calling all his friends first"

Nurse almost fell on the floor laughing...

  3. I have an AM/FM radio and a cell phone (cell phone=my primary phone). If my work needs me, they can call. If it is a disaster, I'll find out on my AM/FM radio [assuming I'm not using the CD player].

For responding to my station, I have two forward white lights with a high and low setting. I have 4 amber lights, one on each corner of my vehicle. The amber lights can either be activated all 4 at once or one side at a time. I have 3 red rear facing red lights (again, dual settings, but seperate control mechanism then the forward facing lights). I will admit that my car has a forward facing auditory alert system. It is activated by pressure and should only be used to emit a short blast. The one finger salute is a valid, if rude, alternative to its use. I carry a personal first aid kit and an ambulance bag that has my steth, BP cuff, DVD player, and an assortment of movies (bag=standard backpack=in car for storage between shifts)

sounds like my car (2 door honda acord) except my work uses a pager as a leash and cellphone only when they are trying to get sneaky. First aid kit includes a small bag with a few bandaids and 4x4s. Amb bag includes leftover lunch from the previous day, steth., psp and gps (depending on who my partner is going to be for the day and their mapping skills).

  4. nonsytem als/ bls transport cars wear 2 peice class b uniforms w/ name plates and badges or our polos. We can also wear our company 1/4 zip sweatshirt and jacket at night.

911 system cars can wear whatever they want including 1 peice jumpsuits, tshirts, and I heard rumors they even have butt-ass ugly turnsouts you can wear if you really want to. Most system cars people wear their badges except in areas of the city where you run the risk of getting shot because of it.
