NIBP
in Patient Care
I was on my EMT practicum in the summer and I was doing a manual BP on a pt, after I pumped up the cuff and started to release I heard the systolic but wasn't sure if it was right so I pumped it back up another 20 mmHg to get a accurate systolic. After the call I was told by another EMT preceptor that I shouldn't be pumping it up like that after releasing it because I'm putting too much stress on the artery. I was confused by this because NIBP machines constantly do that if a pt moves even the slightest. What's your take on this?

Treatment:
O2
IV NS bolus for 250ml, reasses BP
Monitor ECG, acquire 12-lead.
Trendelumberg pos if pt is comfortable with it.
Transport, reasses vitals, aquire further pt hx.
Possible cholecystitis?
Haha wow sorry my entry was late.

I'm just trying to understand the different bases of treatment. In my studies I've learned that you hyperoxygenate in s/s of cerebral herniation syndrome, and you hyperventilate in s/s of cushings triad. And now I have a textbook saying hyperventilation is a thing in the past but ITLS says the exact opposite. What I'm looking for is the difference between hyperventilate and hyperoxygenate, and when to use either one. Can someone please clear my confusion?

Hey everyone! My name is Andrew I'm from Alberta, Canada. I'm just getting ready for my EMT provincial exam next month. I spent 5 years in the Canadian army and made the switch to EMS recently which has been a good trade so far. Anyways I look forward to learning a lot from this new forum. Thanks!

Hey all,
The company I work for is sending a team (1 physician, 2 nurses, 2 paramedics) to a drilling site in Chad, Africa for 2013 and was asking me if I was interested. I mentioned I am but I need more information. I was just wondering what sort of questions should I be asking my employer since this would be my first time working overseas for this company. Thanks!
