  1. No hun sorry but you can't. You must and in this order: graduate high school and recieve your diploma, go to a state approved EMT-B course that can be found on the list on the Department of Heath website, then take your NREMT exam. Sorry for the run on sentence. Go ahead and take the EMT-B class now if you really want but all you can be as of right now is a First Responder.

thank you for your reply. what is a first responder?

  2. you guys make it seem like im dumb or something. i ask this question because im very much interested in the medical field even more EMS. i love to help people, i don't really care about the money i just want a job that i can love and this is it. you guys make it seem like im a retard im not i get A and B in school, i passed both of my fcats my first try. i want to get my life on track. i see a lot of my friends that gradute and dont know what they are going to do with their lifes and that scares me. i understand that i might not be matrue yet, but i will be and i would like to start learning everything i can now. and to clear up my age i turn 17 in 10 days so i just put 17 becasue my birthday isnt that far away. all i wanted to know is if i could take my nremt at the age of 18 and still be in highschool. i hope this cleared up everything

  3. No. There are no quick answers or run around to your education. Now is the time to learn that and take it seriously. Give your education the time it requires. The rest of the discussion has been hashed out a million times before and I'm sure a quick search for "education" on the forum will be incredibly enlightening. I strongly suggest it.

    Cheers and Welcome,

    - Matt

i understand that, but i need to know if im taking theses classes for no reason

  4. Ok. A key part of being involved in the medical field is the ability to investigate. On a medical call you'll investigate the patient's signs, symptoms, and events surrounding the issues so that you can determine what's wrong (even if it's something really general, or even to reach an informed conclusion of "I don't know") and which interventions you need to use.

Now is a good place to start developing your investigation skills. Look up Florida's state level EMS office (googling something like "Florida EMS" should work) and look for links like "certification" or "providers" or the like. There should be a link somewhere in there for "EMT-B" or "EMT" certification requirements.

thanks for the reply, i called the department of health and yes i do need a high school, or ged.

now im very worried because im taking my emt-b classes at the age of 17 and when i turn 18 i

cant even take the test. i was wondering if there is anyway around this can a waiver work i really need

    to answer this question

  5. You can become a First Responder at any time but in order to do your clinicals, ride times, and take the NREMT exam you have to be 18.

Sweety here is the link to our Department of Health: http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/EMT-Paramed...ts.html#Initial

If you are taking this in High School I'm going to guess you are either at Edison High or Homestead Sr. High. Neither school truely have an EMT-B course. Yes I know what your transcripts yes, yes I know what your teachers are telling you. You will graduating as a First Responder and then have to retake the EMT-B course when your 17 almost 18. Been there done that. I cried, I fought, I still had to retake the course at the college. At the college we had a 17 year old almost 18 rushing to get his rides and clinicals done. I'm sorry to be the barer of bad news.

no im attending mater academy im a 11th grader and im taking my course at a EMT school
