Ooops forgot to include this will affect fire departments as well whether they have EMS or not. Maybe we will all be friends on the unemployment lines.
No worry I thought they were included as we all rely on reimbursement. Hopefully we'll meet in a different line and share a beer.

In the USA ambulance is not a required service so I expect even some city/county services to see big cuts or even be closed if the economy does not turn around fast. The privates will really take a big hit as medicaid/medicare/insurance cut back the amount they pay and for what reason they will even pay.
You hit the nail on the head.

Once again a union is going to mess things up...Imagine that.
Sounds like it Don. Sounds like the employees can't decide who they want to represent them.
I base my conclusion on what I have read.
Maybe I am off topic not sure. Have the non union employees benefitted from the previous contract that was in effect or did they have a seperate agreement for both non union and union? I am just curious if this type of work enviroment is in existance and how it works.

Actually if they do strike what better ammo at budget time to ask for a bigger piece of the pie by the fire department. Honestly they would be stupid not to use it in their budget negotions. Get the public concerned with misleading info- just look AMR left you with no one to save your loved ones, but we pulled extra shifts(fail to mention all the extra overtime made) to ensure you were safe. All the blue hairs would demand the leaders to pay fire more so that the ambulance would come. It works, and continues to work. Mislead the public and the money will come.
I did not start this as a bash to fire I just stated a fact of how it will be used if the strike happens. Heck if another large private EMS is in the area they would be dumb not to play it up as well. But as fire has the bigger more powerful unions they will benefit the most.
What misleading information is there should a strike occur????. Your statements are unfounded in this specific case. I see where you point does lie tho all that overtime that the ff will make is going to make them rich. The increase in trasnpot revenue may certainly l help offset these additional cost I know your no fan of the fire services involvement with EMS from your postings. But I will ask you two questions. If you were given an option to make overtime do to similiar circumstances would you refuse it? I think not.
If your communty had a similiar problem and had the resource of the fire service would you stand up and say NO don't let fire dept provide that service. Again I think not. I may be mistaken with your origianl posting as not bashing but certainly your last is.
I just hope a strike will be averted for my union brothers and sisters at AMR.

Now the fire departments will just use this to even get a larger piece of the pie.
This is not about who gets a piece of pie. AMR employees there feel they should have a fair and equitable contract. There only recourse to gain that contract is to strike. I am sure there negotiations have gone on for months with out any agreement in order to have come to the point of striking.
Lats year here in Massachusetts AMR took a strike vote and it passed. AMR management approach all the surrounding private an municipal EMS providers with a request for assistance should there employee's go on strike. I can say with most certainty that no fire based provider rejected there request for assistance to cover there contracted cities or towns should they strike.
The final day the strike was to happen an agreement was reached and AMR employees showed up did there job with professionalism as always.
AMR employees are afford that option to strike. We here in Massachusetts as municipal Fire/EMS providers are not afford that same option. We cannot strike by law.
I will also say that no FD got any bigger piece of the pie because of that possible strike.'There will always be those that do not like things and those that do like things. But bashing ones view and making non factual statements is not very proactive for any of us.
Lets just hope that the strike is averted for all parties involved.

Here is my take on what happen. Who ever was in charge of your training excersise needs a dope slap. To put you into a hazmat suit and scba that were not properly fitted is crazy. To many peoplel DIE in training excises when safety is not the number one priority. I would say those are the factors that caused you to starve for air. There are trainbing standards for a reason. Your training coordiantor chose to ignore those standards and placed you in a position to fail.
To answer your question. You should be able to breathe through a properly fitted mask with the regulator disengaged from the face piece without problems.

There was a time when the smartest people knew the earth was flatif someone were a jehovah witness, and you openly made fun of their religion to the point they hated coming to work, would your supervisor write you up under disrespectful, or unprofessional behavior ?I believe it would come under the heading of work place harrasment. You seem to be grabbing at straws and not sticking with the original post by bringing in religion.
I would also like to think that the supervisor would show respect for not only for his or her supervisory position but by going to the individual and explaining that this is affecting another individual in a negative way. Professionalism is always going to be open to interpretation by individuals. whatI I think is professional you may not think is.
Did they question the professionalism of those who proved them wrong??????
