I think you need to re-read your text book and your state and local laws. You have the right to say no. We do it at my service alot. Just because someone calls 911 doesnt mean they have a true emergency.
I am an Emt in Alabama and as much as we would like to say no,it is against the law.If they call 911 I am required by law to transport that person to the hospitol,to not do so is abandonment. However ,noone said that once you get to the hospitol you can't put them out in triage where they will be seen according to their priority. The reason alot of people do not go POV is because they think if they come in by ambulance they will be seen faster. So the problem falls on legal systems and the receiving facility, you are obligated. -
When someone stops by the station, im sure to get a run! lol
Ha, good call out Mobey. I was still recovering from last night when I wrote this... -

I am from Indianapolis/Greenwood area on the southside. I went to IvyTech 3 months ago and tried to get financial aid and they said because I still live with my parents (spare me the lecture) that their income and mine also added up togeather and I was un-eligible for finanial aide. Now, I could get married and have a kid and go to school for free, but again, that costs money (rotfl) so I've tried. I've went through a medic program before so I know it will be easier this time round when I do it again, Im just really down in the dumps right now and I realy don't want to go into debit more at 21 years old. But then again, I cant get ahead either. so im stuck in a catch 22.
OH and FYI, There are no scolarships for medic school, the way they do it is they make your major nursing until you get close to going into the actuial medic part of the college then they change it you to paramedic science major

Have you tried scholarships to get into Ivy Tech for medic school? What part of Indiana are you in? When I am eligible for financial aid again I am going to apply to the Ivy Tech Paramedic program in Kokomo.

Anyone here know of any decent paying states besides this hell-hole EMS State I live in? Im sick of making 8.00 an hour, while my boss is a freeking millionaire and I'm struggling to pay my bills. I cant go to medic school because I cant afford it and I cant get anyone else. Anyone know of any decent Indiana Companys/County services hiring?

PD should not have that so, thats the same with fire scenes.... seen them get burned before.
OD Cancels us all the time but 99% of the time we are already on scene when they come up to the truck and say "no ones hurt, you can take a disregaurd"

I challenge you to give me ONE example where an EMT "saved" a Paramedic.
Where them being an EMT allowed them to recognize something or to do something that a Paramedic could not have done or would not have recognized.
The medic collapsed after seeing a patient vomit, does that count? <grin>

Okay. Why send him out for antibiotics because of the suction procedure used? In the county I work in BLS EMTs are not allowed to deep suction patients with soft tip, however in the county I run in on the FD (used to work for a private service in the same county) we were. This particular incident happend a while ago and I don't remember if it was inflated or deflated, I am leaning more towards Inflated since we were told it was stable.

Welcome to the Nursing home side of EMS, Some of these LPNs are morons and some but not many of the RNs are dumb.
We have a nursing home that we are contracted with the likes to call us for "respiratory difficulties" all the time, most of these patients have trachs in, mind you im only BLS. I go into the room, the first thing I check is ABC's, the nurse is like "his o2 sats are 70% on 2 litres of nasal cannula" Anyone see a problem with that? LOL. Then I Inspect the trach a little more and low and behold its a mucus plug, grab the suction, suction the trach out with a yankur, remove the plug, apply o2 by peds mask to the trach area at about 10-15 lpm to get him back off on the right start again get his sats up and hes breathing well now. They still want him to go for an eval.
This is the ridicolus shit us "transfer techs" deal with on a day in day out basis. Mind you when Im on duty at the FD we get called to nursing homes to, and I couldnt begin to tell you, there.....

I can't say I agree with a 16 year old working on me. BUT at 16 I was but not an EMT, I was a cadet with adults around me constantly The minute I was 18 I had my EMT Certs, still working with Expereinced EMTs and Medics and they molded me to the EMT I am today. I think this state needs a "must be 18 to practice" law.
