12 drugs??? That stinks. You better check with the school that you will be transferring to, it's really their discretion if they accept the clinical hours.

A positive wave form on capnography is a better indicator than a numerical reading in cardiac arrest situation. Also have seen this situation where the tube was not advanced far enough and setting just anterior of the vocal cords and the cuff would not seal.

Consider being a swat medic. I love it. Does not take too much of my time. It's kinda like having a part time job. And I get my LE fix. Not too much medicine though. Occasional dehydration during training and PT.

Just be aware if you use versed in the trauma pt it will bottom out the BP. Etomidate seems to work well but not as long.

I agree with spenac, Go for a degree while your still young. If you like the medical profession there are all sorts of grants for health care professionals. It would be an asset to have the EMT or paramedic back ground and knowledge but don't stop there. Go all out while you can.

I rode in an ambulance last week and the crew had a tom tom. This thing was really cool and worked great (at least for them, I probably could not turn it on).

Everybody states that the ETT is the gold standard, why is that?
Intubation saves lives! How many people are walking around out there today after you've crammed one of these rescue airways down their throat?? Mabe a few isolated cases. More and more case studys are coming out proving that absoluty nothing we do in the field is making a difference in severe trauma pt outcome. Only Speed (time to surgery) and early intubation.

Ether way you will be a defendant. Defendant of kidnapping if you take her and it winds up nothings wrong. Defendant of abandonment if you leave and she dies and her family sues you.

Quote from our clinical educator, "Intubation---failure is not an option". Nice but not always true. I think there are pro's and con's to both. In additon to those already stated LMA not as much protection from aspiration. Combitube has worse sucess rate. I have been researching the new King Airway. It seems to be easer to insert and more user friendly. Also LMA's can be bulky to fit into an already crowed response bag.

Sounds like you might be a bit overwhelmed on scene. But I must admit I have been there also. I started with a volunteer fire service while going through school to gain experience. When you get on scene of that medical emergency its like you have had absolutely no training at all!! My best advise would be to find experienced personal to respond with and watch, listen, and just observe while on a call. It takes much time, education, and experience to be able to practice medicine with the confidence you are looking for.
Good Luck!

Hello All, I am new to this site but not new to EMS. Paramedic for 7 years, CCEMT-P for 2 years. I am from Alabama and have worked in ground EMS for all 7 years and air medical for the last year. Always trying to stay on top of the new and latest trends.
