  1. I'm not sure if you are asking for personal experiences, or just general observations of the process. I haven't taken the computer test (although I think I am going to have to in order to re-enter), I see it as a very positive piece of progress. The bureaucracy of the testing process is significantly lessened by CAT. Now if they can just get rid of the stupid skills testing too!

    According to my EMT Instructor as of 09-22-07 the "SKILLS" test is in no longer part of the curriculum (in MI).

  2. The First Responder is as stated "the first on scene", now I am not a qualified EMT yet but it is my understanding that a first responder is either or Fire, BLS, or ALS. A first response can also be considered if you were off duty and stopped to assist (depending on the State you reside in as a qualified EMT it may be illegal not to stop and assist).
