Rant....

Recommended Posts

If you are my driver please consider the following:

1) I do not want to look stupid on the radio, thats why I always know the address out the door, if you ask me the address and I tell you, don't question me on how sure I am. Pagers have the repeat function for a reason.

2) It hasn't rained in two weeks. A Ford Escort is driving across this field. We can too. I don't like fire monkeys pointing and laughing at me because we look like Grandma on the interstate.

3) Just because my pt is in a tractor cab, I don't need a backboard to get him down. CHEST PAIN.

4) I shouldn't have to say get the cot more then once. Twice if it is noisy.

5) If I am trying to talk on the portable and it is dead, go talk on the mobile FOR ME.

6) No I really don't need a back board.

7) The scenic tour only applies when the college is in session and there are girls on the lawns.

8) Please do not pull out the pt's IV because you are pulling the cot out in such a hurry.

9) You do not have to pull up so close to the truck in front they can't get their cot in because the garage door shut behind us. Green Up button does wonders.

10) Just because you don't see the blood doesn't mean its not there.

LOL! :)

I feel your pain, Bro.

A lot of those can be covered by this simple caveat: Just because I asked you nicely to do something does not mean it was merely a suggestion. It was an order. Do it. Now. Without discussion. Don't make me institute the "Yes Sir" policy.

And, of course, the same thing applies to those things I asked you nicely to not do.

Dust it is hard to get that to sink into some new people that a question is just a polite order, polite mainly for the benefit of those around us.

We have a ECA ( first responder ) that has been ECA more than 25 years. Recently we got a couple of new EMT's working part time. I explained to them that if the ECA asked if they wanted something or asked if they wanted him to do something it was his way of respectfully reminding them of what needs to be done. They were well I have more education than him. My response his education comes with many years experience to back it, so listen he might keep you from doing more harm to the patient. He does the same to me and the other's here and almost always he's right.

So my point listen to your partners questions.

brentoli did you just get a newbie?

to bad our partners aren't perfect and we are. one of the first things i learned in school is paramedic = pair of medics. maybe you should accually sit down with the ff and just let him or her know exactly what you expect from them. personally i love having the fire men with me as they save my back and try to help to The Best of Their Ability not mine. :D ps you can't look stupid on the radio but you can sound pretty dumb
