jollysuicide: Blind intubations? Why would any regulating agency in the US allow EMTs to try to intubate without going the full route and giving them the tool (larygoscope) to do it with?

12lead EKGs: Why would a EMT-B be trained to read these? They cannot do anything for the paitent except call for ALS back-up anyway. Where do you practice? What are EMTs allowed to do there?

I agree with you Somedic. I think that it is foolish to allow and EMT-B to do either of those things. It is one thing to have the tool but you also have to be able to provide care for what that tool shows you.

What I wonder actually with the blind intubation the poster really meant the placement of another airway adjunct rather than blind intubation????

Original poster, please clarify

Ruff: That would make more sense. EMTs, inmy oppinion could be trained to drop LMAs, combitubes, and other types of airway adjuncts without too much difficulty.

Here we go again with BLS providers being able to perform intubation and other ALS interventions. Hasn't this topic been beat to death enough on these forums? Services that want to provide ALS interventions should employ ALS providers. No short cuts.
