Anyone have any info on jersey care?

Jersey City, UMDNJ, and I believe the Hudson County BLS services pay around that now too.

UMDNJ starts EMTs at $17.50/hr and medics at $25/hr, w/ $1.50/hr night shift differential from 1900 to 0700. That's why I only work nights there.

Hehe, this is like opening a can of worms.

It all depends on what you want to know, some places are great to work, other are on the "less desirable" list. Basics and Medics usually make a lot more than the national average. The wages already stated here are pretty much on the money (no pun intended). There is a mix of volunteer and paid BLS squads all over the state, with ALS being 100% paid and from the hospitals. It has it's good and bad points obviously, but no system is perfect.

All ALS is run by a hospital in that county or counties that has been given the right to operate a MICU, by state law. Yes, it does seem like a monopoly, but we can't escape the red tape of this state. You have heard of very laxed state EMS laws, but this is the total other end of the spectrum, TOO overregulated. Welcome to the Socialist Republic of New Jersey.

Here is a list of NJ ALS Providers per County

Most of the Volunteer BLS squads are governed by the First Aid Council (First Grade Council as we like to call it) but some are not, and feel that they shouldn't have to adhere to EMS laws and promote professional pre-hospital care. Those that are licenced by the state have to abide by specific laws and regulations that the volunteers do not, and are allowed to bill for their runs

I feel the biggest step we need to make in this state is to outlaw volunteer EMS, disband the FAC, and allow more MICU projects while still keeping it 100% hospital based.

For an additional source of information... the NJ DOH...OEMS web site has a list of

the actual letters of discipline sent to als, bls providers and their companies.

it includes their fines as well.

I would post the link but I am not gifted enough to know how to do it.

It would give you some additional information.

Yeah, a lot of them are people that were once medics or EMT's whose cards had lapsed and didn't renew them and continued working. Another one that cracks me up is how many people that were medics and EMT's and turn in fake cards, or medics that turn in fake ACLS and PAL credentials. Ever hear of CEU's and taking the required classes? Just proves that we aren't immune from stupid, retarded people either, and we bitch about them everyday.

Just doing some research on jersey ems companies......

I'm applying for a volunteer tech rescue/EMS company. They have rescue ambulances that carry extrication equipment and will give you all of the required rescue training. I have met some of the people in it and they all seem like they'd be great to work with. If you are looking for a part time volunteer job, Jersey is not always a bad place to start.
