What Do You Carry On Your Person?

Recommended Posts

Probably one of the funniest comments I've seen in a "What to carry/What steth do you use" was over at studentdoctor.net forums. An EM attending/resident (can't remember which) said that the steth she uses is what ever one the med student has.

and I keep my scope around my neck so I can remember to check lung sounds

You need to have your stethoscope so you will remember to check lung sounds? WTF man?!

On the bls ambo I carry the following on me:

I always wear some type of long sleeve jacket. We have a dept. issued winter jacket and I use a plain blue water repellant jacket in the summer that I purchased myself. It's not ems ppe but I mentally think it keeps stuff off me. And I wash this jacket in color safe bleach with the rest of my uniform after each use.

Pen

Pocket Spiral Notebook

Pocket Flashlight

Pocket Drug Book

Trauma Scissors

Radio

Extra set of gloves

Phone

I have never really had use for anything else. I carry a stair chair, oxygen tank and qrb (quick response bag) and aed into every call. A peds back also if its a kid.

If someone has something else they use that is helpful, please let me know. Thanks

Gaelic

I live in a rural area. If responding from home, I've added the following to my issued jump kit (no I don't have light bars or EMS stickers on the car):

- Mini Mag LED flashlight

- Leatherman-type tool

- Notepad and Pen

- Spare pair of reading glasses

- BLS field guide

If I'm responding from the station, I make sure I've got reading glasses and the radio, everything else should already be on the truck.

All you need is 2 pairs gloves, company and personal communications equipment, shears, your stethoscope (kept in a leg pocket), a flashlight, and a really good pen.

If I'm in the ER I usually have my scope over my shoulder. Left in the rig it WILL get stolen, and I don't put it back in my pocket until its been properly sanitized and prepared for its next use. Once I'm wearing gloves, nothing goes back into my pockets without some cleaning.

So you just leave your shears on the scene and use a new pair for each patient?

No, you use your partner's shears! Put them back in his (or her) pocket.
