How I hate thee firefighters, let me count the ways....

Recommended Posts

I don't care if you know what a modified jaw thrust is called, when I ask you to open the Pt's airway do it.

Air way is more important then bleeding.

Give me the hard mask god dam it! Not that seal easy crap!

If we need the spinal board chances are we need the straps too. So bring them with you okay?

When you tape the head to the board, the tape has to go around the forehead and the chin or it pretty much doesn't do anything. Have you ever done a call before?

what else?

Oh yeah, I decide when we start to move not you.

Why don't we train these monkeys how to drive the freekin ambulance. We have two medics who know wtf they are doing but instead we use one of them to drive the damn truck while the monkey rides in back "assisting".

Don't be angry if you're not the first on scene, then not the primary caregiver and not 'completely included' in patient care...Especially if you're a non-transporting service.

And if you don't feel that my patient care has revolved around you, don't go threatening me with "Not showing up" and "no longer assisting" and "I'm not going to just carry your things around for you!" I understand that, but before I make you feel all kumbayya'ed, I have a patient to treat.

NRB's for every patient, no questions asked, is excessive. And my company owner yells at me for replacing equipment you use, even if it is contract based replacement.

If you don't want to carry two sets of bags out, don't carry yours in if you arrive on scene second.

I should start carrying a fire extinguisher in on medical calls, asking them to carry it out for me. :angel4:

I'm not bitter, but let's talk. Don't come out swinging :-D

OOH Can I add some...

A shortness of breath call does not require you to wear bunker gear into the pts house, in case you haven't noticed they smell like someone pissed on a campfire. If you show up with your gear on guess what, your dismissed thank you very much for playing.

I don't mind you carrying in your bags if they have ALS equipment in them, saves me time cleaning my laryngoscope.

When I say "I gotta pulse" do not resume compressions.

Peace,

Marty

when "we" get kicked out on a sudden death and you get there before me, don't tell me, on the air, the pt is breathing on his own when your bagging him as i show up, oh by the way, that isn't a weak blood pressure/pulse that is asystole and maybe we should do some compressions 5 to 7 mins after you got there.

You know what surprises me about firefighters? When people ask them the most disturbing thing about their job, they never, ever, ever say "Being the subject of gay porn." I mean, that would disturb me, anyway... To each his own, I guess.

Firefighters have jobs. Here ius a short list encompassing the most common jobs, they have, in relation to the EMS service.

1.) "Carry her please" (Read: Too heavy, id rather you sit out on workmans comp for six weeks instead of me, because im sure your FIRE department has better benefits...)

2.) "Open that, and get me inside there. Cut there....there....and there"

(read: Also too much work, thus, cut me a whole i could drive a mac truck through, and I avoid the labor board phone call because I had to break a sweat)

3.) "do compressions. ventilations, and utilize the AED oin cardiac arrests, and concentrate on airway management" (READ: This is not a pick and chhose what you want ideal. Lets do it right and try them all SIMULTANEOUSLY for best results...)

4.) "handle my refusal pleeeease" (Read: Im lazy, your dumb, soooo enjoy the chart...)

more later....

C'mon baby...work that corpse! Lividly usually means DEAD!

If rescue wants to race to the call....they can have the refusal! I ain't your secretary!

Get out of my truck unless you want a ride to the hospital too... You should have gotten patient info in the 15 minutes we were on scene.

And how come FD gets all the credit for the save when they can't even recognize v-fib! WTF
