Bees in EMS

Recommended Posts

Each spring, thousands of bee hives from different areas moved from one area to an other to pollinate our cranberries, apples and many other fruits and vegetables. An estimated one third of all our food relies on honey bee’s pollination. As trucks loaded with hive boxes make their way, there is a risk of a vehicle crash, or overturned truck. Not only are first responders faced with possible injured victims, thousands of angry, stinging bees are on hand to complicate an urgent situation.

call the fire dept and have them pull a charged line to put a large fog pattern on the scene .We had just this exact incident last year when a 48 ' flatbed rolled over on an off ramp spilling an estimated 5 million highly upset bees loose. they will swarm away from the fog stream giving you time to remove your victims to the ambulance Remember to check everyone on the scene that has been stung for reaction to the venom as many will have multiple stings. the more stings the greater chance of a reaction.
