Why did the police pull your ambulance over?

Actually happened dude. What I didn't mention is that it was pure harassment on the part of PD. A Little history of Portland EMS. Portland (Multnomah County) used to have 3 ambulance services and the city was divided in roughly three zones, west, southeast and north/northeast. We had dropped of a pt at Providence Milwaukie and were "out of" our area. Some Portland Police Bureau officers were very protective of their districts and out of district ambulances were open game. So this Sgt. decided he found an excuse to pull us over, that's what made it really funny. He did not ask why we were out of district or anything he just left without harassing us.

Peace,

Marty

My friend, I was not doubting the truth of your story. I was referring to the story in the link I posted, which your story reminded me of. The story in the link I posted is the one I took for true when I heard it before I encountered it in a number of mutations on the internet. The story you posted I took for true and still do.

It's cool Bro, I didn't take it personally at all. If you want to see what happens if I take things personally look at the last thread "the-kid" made last nite, oh wait they deleted that thread.

Peace,

Marty

The other day i was driving priority to a MVA I was going pretty fast about 85 on a 65 road i had a state patrol car pull up behind me and ride my butt with his lights going so i figured if he wanted to go faster id go in the right lane and let him around but he pro ceded into the right lane so i got back in the left and pro ceded to the call. He then ran up to me and yelled at me to stop and began yelling at me for speeding. WTF It was a nasty wreck and we were the first unit on scene. After pt care i graped the Sargent and the officer and the officer told me he should write me a ticket for wreck less driving for going that fast and the Sargent flipped out on the officer.

What are the rules in your state about speed limits when responding at the highest priority?

I'd never seen that before in my life, and never did after either, who in their right mind would want to go so fast...

:D

I would.

That's enough right there. That was the punch line. LOL

I heard a version of this http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/blballs.htm story and believed it for years. Maybe it happened once.

I first heard that as a made up joke, rather than a "this once happened" true story joke. Like 'Cop: Have you been drinking, your eyes look glassy Driver: Have you been eating donuts, you're eyes look glazed'...it's starts out with "One time a guy got pulled over"...but it doesn't mean this ever really happened, even once.

Ok, this one didn't happen to me, but it happened to my soon to be boss, butfirst i have to give you a little background on him.

you see, Joey (my boss) used to be in the mechanic business, and built and raced racecars, so naturally, when he got in EMS, he started building ambulances. He would buy an ambulance that might be having engine trouble, take the engine out, and rebuild it. well as, I said, joey built race cars, so of course, he figured an ambulance needs to be fast too. Now in lower alabama, joeys old ambulances(before they said he couldnt use them anymore) are a legend, but on with the story. Back when AIDS just came out, of course not many people knew about it and everyone was scared as hell when anyone mentioned it. One day, joey gets a call for transport of a bad off AIDS patient down to some hospital in Florida, and is told to run Code 3, so of course, not really wanting them in his truck anyway, he starts hauling ass down the interstate. now 30-40 miles into Florida, he notices a FHP car running lights and sirens behind him...an another.. and another.... until finally, 6 FHP cars and a helicopter later, joey decides to pull over. so, patrol officer comes up to the drivers side window and asks joey "why in the hell are you doing 135 mph down MY interstate in an ambulance. Joey, nonchalantly, tells him that he has a bad off AIDS patient, and that he was told to get them to the hospital as quick as possible. THe cop looks at him, so joey goes to get out, telling him that he'll prove it and open up the back, the officers eyes widen and then toells Joey" If anyone steps out of that ambulance, I'll shoot'em dead Gddmit!, now get the hell out of her, and don't be slow about it!"

This was not in an ambulance but was pretty funny. Before I recently moved I was working as a Double Agent for the Best Buy Geeksquad. For those that don't know the double agents are the ones who ride around in the painted bugs, for any body that works at the geeksquad our uniform is black slacks, black shoes, white dress shirt and black tie (think stereotypical mormon). This is what the car I drove looks like, in addition to the look our cars had a small geeksquad sign hanging on the back hatch (was an orange LED board that said Geeksquad, please visit our website at www.geeksquad.com or visit your local best buy!) that looked kinda like a lightbar when it was off. In the front of the car we had a window mounted GPS unit.

geeksquad.jpg

Anyways I'm driving along the interstate, doing the speed limit (If caught driving fast fired immediatly) and listening to the radio at a fairly high volume. When I drive on the interstate I tend to get kinda into the zone and the flow of traffic and never look in my mirrors unless I'm changing lanes. All of a sudden I hear a siren, so I look and pull over into the right lane to let the cop pass, he gets behind me. I look down at my speed and the cruise was set at 54-55 so I knew I wasn't speeding. I think maybe somethings wrong with my lights or maybe the tags of the car. So I pull over the next thing I see is another officer pulling up behind the first and both coming to my car. Both cops are PISSED and demand that I get out of the car, so I do so and they escort me to the rear of the car. They are yelling at me because they had been following for 3 exits and I didn't pull over, then they lay into me for impersonating a police officer and that I wasn't allowed to have light bars in my vehicle etc. So after getting beratted I finally get a chance to show that the sign isn't a light bar and the one in the front is a GPS. I also show them all the info as well as my Geeksquad ID...which just so happens to be a badge that resembles a police badge. They flip out again about the badge and I'm written several tickets and sent on my way.

Fast forward 3 months I'm doing my ride times at a station near where I was pulled over and guess who came in! Yep our friendly police officer, this time he was much more friendly and was joking with me and said "What now, you impersonating an EMT?!" we had a good laugh over it. Water under the bridge.

As far as my job, I just gave the tickets to my manager and they took them to legal, they were taken off my record and thrown out in court. Although they made us get rid of the sign from the back of our cars.

But the BEST part is this AntonyM83, I would bet that BANDAIDPATROL is still doing just that.

I miss him, but in the future I sure would like to get on as his partner, it would be a blast!

cheers.

The Memorial Day weekend this year our local PD had just hired a new lateral transfer. FD gets paged for a commercial fire assignment which means EMS is automatically paged as well (same service 2 pages). En Route to the call the new PD officer decides to light up and pull our engine over. He decides to ticket all 4 memebers of the engine, who are getting bunker gear on, for no seat belt. Needless to say our chief and his had a nice "heart to heart" for holding our engine up on the way to a call. Also the tickets were all thrown out.
