I have started trying to whack myself back into shape. Today I went out running (Ha!) thought I would make the half-mile jog. I dont think I made 300 meters. although I did get in a few crunches and other leg work such as lunges and latters. When I arrived back at my vehicle at the park the H.S. girls and my former basketball coach was there, working out. And I thought to myself, Gawd I am so out of shape! It was embarrassing for me to be seen lobbing my way up the hill by all these youngsters. I hung my head in shame. But after working out for a total of 90 mins I felt better physically and mentally. I dont feel quite so sluggish. I ended up doing this:

ran 3/4 mile, walked the rest of the way

30 lunges

30 knee-highs

30 butt kickers

30 scooters

30 high skips

30 fast skips

50 calf raises on both legs

35 calf raises on R leg

35 calf raises on L leg

200 crunches

3 sets of 15 what a call half sit-up w/ twist

30 3-cut steps

and last but not least

5 push ups!

After all of this hoobahoo my legs feel like jello gelatin. Oh and when I tried doing some stair steppers, I nearly snapped my ankle in half. That ended my workout.

All of this in a sentence:

Im not as healthy or fit as I thought I was.

If anyone here wants to join me in my crazy quest for fitness I'd be happy to start a small group of people to keep us on track and enourage one another.

Well I'm not ubermarathoner but I can run a mile or two when the mood strikes.

I think I'm in pretty good shape for my age and I suppose going to the gym pretty consistently over the past 14 yrs or so (I'm 33) had something to do with it. I'm no 2% bodyfat gym prissy but I do tend to do my weightroom math in multiples of 45 if you know what I mean.

So I pretty much base my notion of fitness on strength and also the difference I see between myself and old High School friends when I run into 'em......MAN some of those folks went down the toilet fast! I swear some of them look 20 years older than they are!!

All I can say is JUST DO IT. Lift, run, whatever... ...being in shape (or even somewhat in shape) helps so much in soooo many aspects of life. I swear I'd go crazy if I couldn't get to the gym at least once a week!!

I ran my last 5 K about ten years ago. At 6' 2" and 170 lbs. I'll never be fat. I never was a marathon runner, the 100 yard dash was my big thing. My best was 9.9 sec, when the world record was 9.6. I can still manage a respectable 7.5 minute mile. OK 8 minutes. Still not bad for a 55 y/o.

You know Dix, you got something here. I think I'll join in. I am overweight and would like to slim down, everybody around me seems to be losing their weight and apparently I'm the one finding it. My Friends lose a pound and I gain a pound, so this is what I will do. I will start back going to the gym I joined and use my membership for once. I have been on a weight loss program since January and have lost 10 lbs but I haven't been exercising with it so that is what I will do. Thanks for the motivation DIX!!!

I would love to be part of your group too! I'm supposed to run a marathon in January. I haven't been running in about 5 years. (Since I got out of the military) I could use the motivation and encouragement. Thanks! Samantha
