I've been an NYC EMT a little over 3 years, a year and a half working transport @ Midwood Ambulance and a year and half working 911/Core @ NSLIJ. I did a small stint @ FDNY academy in between that time. I ended up resigning. I was just recently hired at Transcare's 911 division. my supervisor tried VAX'ing me but the FDNY denied me clearance to work for an unknown reason. Now I can't work 911 until the FDNY figures out why. It's been over 3 weeks. Has anyone been through this? And how much longer will it take for the FDNY to finally clear me?  For what reasons would they deny someone clearance to work? And what exactly does VAXing someone mean?

I would think that your vaxing question has to do with all your childhood immunizations, your hep-b and influenza vax status.  Don't listen to Jenny mcCarthy, the vaccinations will NOT give you Autism.

Are your childhood shots up to date?  Did they say anything about running titers for your existing childhood immunization status?  And have you had the Hep-b vaccinations and flu shot yet?  Did you quit the FDNY academy prior to your getting vaccincated and tested by them?  I would suspect that is what they are denying clearance for you.

then again, it might be that you just pissed someone off at the FDNY for quitting and they are making it tough on you.

but the more likely possibility is that you need some vaccinations or don't have records to prove vaccination status and they are requiring you get them before you work.

If I were you, I would go talk with the supervisor at Transcare to find out exactly what the problem is. You should have received something in writing if there was a complaint or if there was any kind of discipline.
