UK transfer to USA

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I am currently studying Paramedic Science at Northampton University in the UK and I am very curious about the following matter: It is my ambition to become a paramedic BUT it is an even larger ambition for me to move to America to become a paramedic! I would like to move to Chicago as soon as I graduate and get a job at a busy firehouse! I have also spoken to my family about this and they are going to support me the whole way!

My point being that will I have to move to America and undertake the different classes that USA born paramedics have to do (IV Line, EKG's etc.)? I also have an idea to become an NHS paramedic and get some experience first?

Thanks In Advance ?

Because there is no mandate for higher education for a US Paramedic they are considered third preference for a third preference work visa; basically considered an unskilled (or "other") worker.

So, I hope you're not thinking being a UK Paramedic will allow you to get a work visa because it won't.

You must also consider that what you see on American TV shows like Chicago Fire is not reality.

Having worked and traveled extensively in the USA my advice to you is to visit on vacation and stay put living in the UK; even if it rains alot :D
