Hello Everyone,

Well I gotta say, started off with random searches on google for medical scenarios and this place seems exactly what I was looking for. Quick bio about myself, I'm a flight medic serving in the Army overseas with about 3+ years experience as a ground medic to now a new aviation medic, in the very near future attending school for paramedics and hopefully furthering my career in emergency medicine. I hope to learn a lot from everyone and to contribute to this fine group and website that you all have made.

Would like to hear your thoughts on the current uptick in the number of civillian EMS helicopter crashes. Being in the military what do you think might be done to make flying on the civilian side safer?

Im assuming your referring to the crashes in Iowa back in January and Kentucky this month right? Well there hasn't been any findings yet ( that I've read anyways) from either two of those crashes, but I believe it comes down to maintenance, pre-flight checks, and complacency.

In the military our crew dogs and civilian mechanics are some of the hardest working people I know. Without their checks, checks for the checks, and check for the checks for those checks who know how many accidents we would have today. When it comes down to the actual flying portion of our job, the crew who goes out to the helicopter have to work together and provide constant " cross cabin" checks to keep an eye for one another. We have certain requirements that we do while we are flying to make sure that not only the pilots are concentrating on their specific task but the members in the back are alert and doing their scans inside and outside the helicopter. We fly a ton, I mean a lotttttttttt. So its easy to try to cut corners here and their because it just gets repetitive and you just wanna either get it done and go home early or you wanna hurry to go pick up that patient because you're so focused on trying to get there faster.
