Which antiemetic do you use? Which one would you like to use?

The hospital here is all to happy to load you up on ondansetron while you are in hospital but if you need a script for some antiemetics post discharge they religiously use metaclopramide because (and I quote a Consultant Physician) "its cheap!"

I could use one right about now; and a line in each arm. Drank some of that low cal Gatorade after a fire.. Ugh.. ralphed till there was no more to ralph. Took some Emetrol, supposed to be Cherry flavor!?!?! OMG.. That made it worse. I've never, in my life, tasted anything so vile.

Does anyone have any experience using diphenhydramine for nausea? That's literally the only thing I have on the truck right now, though I'll have to call for orders to use it for that...

More or less the same as dimenhydrinate. Just expect the associated drowsiness to be a little bit more pronounced than with dimenhydrinate. Essentially dimenhydrinate is just diphenhydramine with some stimulant thrown in to reduce the sedative effects.

We carry Zofran but I have found Benadryl to be effective as an anti-emetic. Personally I prefer Phenegran as well.

We carry ondansetron and metoclopramide. I would like to see us replace metoclopramide with Phenergan, and keep the ondansetron.

Metoclopramide does wonders for classically presenting vascular headache patients in my experience (along with a litre or so of fluid). Adding Phenergan and reserving maxeran for patients most likely to benefit from it would probably be better than punting maxeran altogether.
