Heterosexual pride day! Good idea or bad?

The article says it all. I can't add to it.

I think that if they can have Gay Pride parades then the straights should be able to do the same.

I'd be interested in opinions. And Remember this is being done in Brazil which I believe started the Gay Pride parade phenomenon.

Can't we?

I don't participate in straight pride parades because as a straight white male in north america, I don't have much to "fight" for.

No need to jam it down thier throat (no pun intended)

I also don't participate in these because I think that it will just promote the anti gay rhetoric from all angles that has been going on for years.

I don't need to flaunt my sexual orientation. But the argument that many will make is that if the gays get a gay pride parade then the straights get their own parade as well.

Why would it be wrong to allow this? Why would it be wrong to prohibit this?

This post is not to promote division here but to promote discussion. I'd love to hear Flaming's take on this?

I find this amusing as I was going to reply to this post...there was an ad for gay singles in my area... What would be the purpose of it? What would be the agenda of a straight parade?

I only know what the article said. I don't really know what the US parade agenda would be.

Promoting straight lifestyles or whatever. Like I said, I only read the article just like you did (i think) and I really didn't see an agenda.

The article was published in a Christian magazine so I'd assume the agenda could be that homosexuality is against God and they want to put out that there are options available in the Christian community.

There will be all sorts of opinions on this but let's leave the religion argument out of it and focus on what the non-secular arguments or agenda would be. We all know the christian agenda on this. No need to rehash it again.

that could be said for homosexuals also, at least the ones out of the closet. I have many gay friends and they are pretty prideful of who they are.

Allegedly Gay pride parades are to help foster acceptance and celebrate "diversity". I say "allegedly" because in most pride parades I have seen on TV- and the many I have seen and worked at in person- they look more like freak shows. Guys dressed in drag, in outlandish/pornographic/cross dressing/ridiculous outfits. How exactly does that promote acceptance of a gay lifestyle? Yes, there are many "normal" floats and marchers for various groups and causes, but I'd guess 75% of the parade folks I have seen are out of their minds and their behavior makes Mardi Gras look like an Amish picnic. Whatever, but doesn't an event like this undermine the argument that there is essentially no difference between gays and straights? Do "straight people" have their share of degenerate/wild events? Sure- see the aforementioned Mardi Gras celebration-, but they also don't pretend they are representative of any particular group other than the lunatics who attend/sponsor that specific event.

So would a heterosexual pride day be a good idea? Probably not, because as evidenced by the responses here, "every day" is supposedly heterosexual pride day. Any attempt at such an event would be immediately be labeled as divisive, homophobic, and hateful.
