Ammonia Inhalants, A.K.A. "Smelling Salts"

Dwayne, stop feeding the trolls. You are killing the kittens.

Dominic, welcome to the city. Please don't let our token sociopath turn you away. He needs to have his lithium level checked. The rest of us here are pretty normal (supposedly). Having been through that experience you are probably more qualified than anyone here to discuss the use of inhalants.

OK Doc, I will go read this book http://www.abebooks.com/American-College-Emergency-Physicians/author/3267275 then come into the ER and teach you how to treat patients. Students are entitled to have opinions, they just shouldnt voice them until they have some real world experience.

As usual, you miss the point. First, there is no reason to be such an asshole to a new member who may have something to contribute. Second, he wasn't talking about giving a treatment from a providers point of view. He was discussing the topic at hand and explaining his experience as a patient. I'm not sure how the experience isn't valid even if he is just a lowly student who should be bowing before the paramedic gods.

A student's opinion is totally irrelevant. Run 1 call before you have an opinion !

That is called student racisum, you were a student once and Im pretty sure you had an opinion, and by the way you act here Im pretty sure you voiced it or you would say to the effect "I cant have an opinion because Im black"

Bieber - Don't fret over crochity. The dude has real issues and talks crap all of the time. It is very hard to see where he is coming from because of the massive chip on his shoulder.

We used to sniff ammonia inhalers for kicks when we were kids. It will ring your bell for sure.

Sometimes if I cant figure out if the patient is faking unconsciousness I will hold their arm high over their face and drop it. An unconscious patients hand will fall on his face. A conscious patient will drop the hand on his chest or above his head, not on his face. I’m sure there are exceptions but I have never seen it. An extreme measure is to touch their eyeball.

I hope you continue to participate. I am a student myself and constantly learn from the more serious posters on this forum
