I doubt we will be able to wait a year for new units, our one main unit is so close to 700 000km its painful, I liked working in the GM chassis on my practicum, guess we will have to see

700 000km? Our units are usually retired before they reach 350 000km. Maybe you guys should check out the BC government auction site if you're looking to replace a unit on a budget. One of our retired units would only be at half its service life by those standards.

Our average transfer (which is what us call in crews do alot of) is about 260km - 280km round trip it adds up pretty quick, our 2006 unit has over 350 000 on it already

I know the feeling. The first station I worked out of here in BC routinely did transfers over 300km round trip. Even at my current station transfers are typically 160-200km round trip. Our second car which does most of the transfers has had around 50000km put on it in the last 7 months alone.
