If I had a kit like that I'd put it in my basement under the stairwell. I'm the only trained medical person on my block other than my wife. I'm sure I'll be needed, oh wait, it's the end of the world so I don't give a shit.

There is something to that theory Ruff.

The service I just moved out of covered about 2500 people. We had one health centre (like a day clinic) one Dr. one Paramedic and 4 EMT's. The first major hospital was about 2.5hrs away and forget about air amb, they don't service out there.

A kit like this (overkill as it may be) may actually have some merit in a setting like that one.

Some of the stuff is real nonscence....... but imagine an explosion in the school in that remote of a setting.

Or a town wide disaster during a heavy snowfall when the roads are impassible.

I don't know about malaria, but it is used for anthrax... but mostly it is used for bronchitis and other such lung problems

Way too little in the way of antibiotics. He has one 7 day course of Cipro and 2 7 day courses of Levaquin.

Great minds think alike. That was my first thought when examining the drug list. It wasn't thought out in an attempt to prepare for emergencies. It was thought out in an effort to hoarde the sexy stuff, probably to use as barter material in a disaster.

This guy is a nutjob, and an anal one at this. The scariest part is that after listing his [lack of] training, he states that he is comfortable with his knowledge Reminds me of all those EMT basics who go read a couple chapters in an old ACLS manual so that they can "get ahead" for paramedic school, then run around mouthing off as if they actually learned anything. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. This is a prime example.

There is nothing wrong with having a kit like that in the pre-hospital setting IF IT'S ON YOUR AMBULANCE. Of course, having being trained in all the equipment as well.

As a personal kit though, we can beat the horse all we want and say it is crazy, because well it is. Where I live, it is ILLEGAL to carry any ALS type equipment on your person or in your vehicle, besides when you are working and on the clock, ie.. 6:30am and you shift starts at 7am driving to/from work, you cannot have say, an IV catheter on you. Let alone having surgical type equipment, and narcotics. It just boggles the mind.

It wouldn't surprise me that this person looks at this kit or the pictures of it in lou of porn.

for the record i was using flickr trying to look into some als bag layouts. somehow i got referenced to the fourm on another topic. since that entire website was nothing but personal kits and such...was interested to see there layouts....

but this was overkill....
