Whatever happened to the "Ignore this user" function on this forum? I swear we used to have one.

For the first time in four years, I want to use it.

apparantley we do not understand the definition of the word professionalism.

Its not a matter of professionalism. I see it as a matter of respect. The arguemnt or debate presented has nothing to do with professionalism in my eyes Respect is knowing that something may offended some one and its corrected by changing the channel or by that some one simply leaving the room so not to view what they believe is objectionable.

Why I don't always agree with all posters here I certainly respect and value there input. I think your missing there input and lacking in showing them respect.

Be Safe Out There

Whoa, wait a second. Since when did a R rated film mean nudity? Pick one of the following to complain about; R rated films or pornography. You can't throw both out there and then when people say no to porn, yes to R rated films complain about us condoning porn.

I see your point, it is a lack of respect --- but isnt part of professionalism being respectful of your coworkers --- if someone were a jehovah witness, and you openly made fun of their religion to the point they hated coming to work, would your supervisor write you up under disrespectful, or unprofessional behavior ? There was a time when the smartest people knew the earth was flat -- there was a time when it was ok to not let women and minorities vote --- just because the majority does it, doesnt make it right. The definition of democracy (for those who feel their rights are being trounced by the minority) is 3 wolves and a sheep deciding whats for dinner.

And if it helps, i have no problem dumbing the question down for my minions, if it helps you make a rationale decision, instead of one based on emotions ---- Is it proper for people to watch nude women on tv in the workplace, in a setting of many employees with various sexual orientations, religous views, and beliefs ? Although everyone is talking tough, if a lost citizen walked in at 11pm for directions, and caught you watching a skinamax soft porn show, and complained to your bosses, you know you would be in trouble.

***looking around*** You ain't got minions here Bubba.

There should NEVER be a "lost citizen" who "walks in" at any hour of the day. Ever. The station for security purposes should always be locked.

I believe it would come under the heading of work place harrasment. You seem to be grabbing at straws and not sticking with the original post by bringing in religion.

I would also like to think that the supervisor would show respect for not only for his or her supervisory position but by going to the individual and explaining that this is affecting another individual in a negative way. Professionalism is always going to be open to interpretation by individuals. whatI I think is professional you may not think is.

There was a time when the smartest people knew the earth was flat

Did they question the professionalism of those who proved them wrong??????

I get offended when my partner watches The 700 Club. I feel it's inappropriate television. There is no nudity or profanity in any of the shows content, yet I don't want to watch it. To me it is offensive. What I do is find something else to do or retire to my sleeping quarters and read.

You/we cannot force our beliefs on others. We have the availability of satellite television at the station and as such, can watch any channel available. My partner and I have never watched pornography, it shows bad form. R-rated movies are ok as long as we are in agreement. Very seldom can we not find something mutually agreeable to watch, when we watch TV at all. Most TV shows suck. I much prefer a good book.
