The professional fate of two Winnipeg paramedics accused of soliciting prostitutes while on the job remains undecided.

A city hearing, which began today, will continue next week, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Chief Jim Brennan said in a statement released Friday afternoon.

The paramedics were arrested in separate incidents last month while Winnipeg police were conducting an undercover prostitution sting. The paramedics were not the target of the sting, police said earlier this week, but allegations surfaced once the operation was underway.

The hearing, which is separate from the police criminal investigation and related court process, is looking into any alleged inappropriate actions of the employees while employed by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, the statement said.

The service was not providing any additional details Friday, saying it's an internal matter still under review.

Both men, ages 41 and 32, are suspended from work without pay. Both also had their paramedic licenses suspended by Manitoba Health.

I am sure they were just wanting to brush up on there anatomy.

This happen in Boston about 15 years ago when I was employed part time with a private ambulance service. The crew unfortunatlly solicted a Boston undercover officer and were terminated that evening while awaiting booking. I know this because my partner and I had to pick up there ambulance for the company.

Why? I understand the innocent until proven guilty in court... but I don't think the service has to follow that. The fact that they were arrested, and this occurred while on duty, should be enough grounds for termination.

But... on the other hand.... if you are a professional... and you solicit another professional's services... is that really unprofessional conduct?
