"Baseline" V/S?

Recommended Posts

Simple question: What are the baseline V/S? I was reading in my ITLS book today and it gave the baseline Resp. Rate at 10-22 I think. I learned it from my basic text, and my paramedic textbook as 12-20, the pulse rates for peds was also different. That was as far as I was able to read at my clinical, but the point is there an "absolute" range for V/S- as in a specific set that is the standard?

P.S. I know there are no absolutes in this career.

Just about every book will be slightly different on what they call normal vital signs. When you go take the exam pick the set that is closest to what your book said. In the field treat the patient their numbers maybe in the normal but it is obvious they are blue, they need something. Hope that helps a little.

When it come to the term "base line vitals" it's not referring to what is normal. It's referring to what your first set of vitals are, no matter their value. It's what you compare with future readings.

Your right Firedoc5, I'm sorry blond moment. I was actually refering to "normal limits". What is "normal" when each book you read has a different set.

As before normal range will be close to whatever the book says but maybe not exactly for testing purposes.
