Top 10 signs it's EMS Week

It's called "The ambulance driver's perspective" :protest:
Kaisu, Yeah, the title kinda sucks but you should read his blog when you get a chance. Really well written.

how are communities "celebrating" EMS Week? Are hospitals really putting food out for you?

Both hospitals in our city did. That was one week we actually ate very well.

Depends on the hospital, but some of them give out quite a few freebies. Some have a t-shirt day, the next day coffee mugs, etc. My current FT job doesn't transport much this time of year, so I didn't get to take advantage.

When I was working for a private, we used to see several hospitals each day and got to partake much more. :D

I emailed an article for "EMS Week" to the local newspaper. It's a weekly venue, rural area, they almost always welcome articles from me, or pictures. If I don't send one, they call and ask for stuff.

Anyhoo.

When I sent my personally written article last October, for Fire Prevention week, they put it on the front page. They even had a huge banner.

This week, I wrote a nice article explaining EMS, what we do, how a 911 call works, the history of the funeral homes & ambulance services to modern EMS.

I picked up the paper last night. Nothing.

The owner/editor said, "well, we really didn't think it would be of any interest".

As has been mentioned both on other strings here and in other venues (there's other venues?), it is always disappointing that the EMS community has to throw a party for itself, more often than not, rather than the public throwing said party.

Pre-merger, NYC EMS used to have a yearly party for itself, not EMS Week connected, in one of the parks around the city. The officers manned the grills, and did the cooking. If only figuratively, they were serving us rank and filers, who normally worked for them.

unbelieveable but they'll put crap in the paper about some dumbass who needs an ambulance after doing something stupid but nothing to even remotely recognize the job itself
