A while back I was on a site ordering a lightbar and they had it posted "ways to know your a wanna-be" or something like that and I have been unable to find it since.

You can stop looking. You already FAIL that test for buying a lightbar in the first place.

But, just for shits and giggles, I actually looked for you. Among the many truly disturbing things I saw, here's a few related links I found on Google:

  • There were many more, but I could feel the brain cells slipping away with each link I clicked, so hopefully that is enough for you.

I actually did the math on a

light set and came up with a cost of something around $1600 for the entire fit out. For that much money, the owner could have gone to paramedic school or got upwards of 70 community college units according to the prices of programs in Southern California.

As you go through and read a lot of the wanker posts on sites like eLightbars.com and EMTlife.com, there is one recurring theme you will see among them. The guys putting all this crap on their vehicles are always saying things like, "as soon as I get my tax refund..." or "when I save up a couple more cheques..." It's obvious that they don't have the discretionary income to afford these things. Reminds me a lot of people who get tattoos. They're always saying, "as soon as I can afford it, I'm going to get another one." Both groups have about the same amount of common sense and class.

You're spot-on, JP. These kinds of displays are indicative of very poorly misplaced priorities and a complete lack of common sense, both of which are reasons they shouldn't even be involved in the emergency services to begin with. And ironically, the more financially and educationally qualified a person is to have them, the less likely he is to actually buy them.

Does admitting you're a wanker make you less of one?

We use to use the comparison on being like putting a $800 saddle on a $40 horse.

so why don't you put a picture of your lightbar on the site here. I'm sure all of us would like to see it.

Did you put in on your car or on your departments ambulance?

Just curious.

You know you have to worry about some guys when they are hooking up wig-wags and grill lights on their own car.

No offense to you guys that have done that though. :?
