Re-taking registry every 2 years poll

Will you continue to be a part of NREMT if required to recertify by taking the written test for each renewal?

Before I had to retire from the field, one thing I was really burned out on was that it seemed like I was always either taking a class or teaching a class or both. I taught several refresher classes that I was counted as getting credit for attending. It just seemed to never stop.

My first ten years in EMS, we had to take a full refresher (no CEs allowed) and re-take the written and practical tests every two years, or lose the cert, period. I liked that it forced people to be accountable for staying semi-current. Unfortunately, it was the same test every two years, with few changes ever being made. Consequently, people weren't advancing or progressing. They were just focusing on remaining at the same educational level they last achieved. EMTs didn't have to worry about actually learning more and becoming better providers. All they had to worry about was passing the same test they had passed three previous times. That's a complete joke.

We should have recert tests every few years. And it should be a harder, more advanced test each time, to ensure that we are progressing, and not just stagnating as we have the last thirty years.
