We have standing orders and protocols for most everything but still contact medical control for times when advanced care is needed. We have to contact medical control on assisting with some meds also. A lot of cya stuff.

Id probably like to have both standing orders and medical direction. That way you still have room to do your thing and yet when you come across something you need help on then you've still got an ER doc just a phone call way to advise you.

Besides alot of times the ER can be a big help, and standing orders are there to guide you in situations where the medical direction really doesnt need to be contacted.

We only have to call in for a handful of drugs like Dopamine, Morphine & Valium.

As of this posting, which is, admittedly a bump-up, I note only 26 folks have taken the poll. We're supposed to be 1000 strong, how about a couple more folks taking this poll?

I like the idea of having standing orders and Medical Direction if it is needed. The training we recieve here i believe prepares us quite well to work in the field as a paramedic and make good sound tx plans. It is also nice to have the resource available in those special cases when you value a second opinion.

im not sure that "telemetry" is the appropriate term, but if i understand this right, i am for standing orders AND medical direction, if needed.

I just dont see how you can go wrong with this.

having said that, i think that many times, in many places the EMT B is not utilized to the fullest potential.
