  1. Hey all, I'm considering relocating to the midwest - probably the Wisconsin area from Southern New England. Salaries here are probably some of the highest in the country, but we also have some of the highest standards of living in the country. All things being equal, salary should be relative to the cost it is to where you live. I'm curious what salaries are in the MidWest and if most EMTs and medics can get by on your salary there - or are you juggling multiple jobs. I talked to one or two medics in the area and was surprised to learn that 24 hour shifts are often the standard.
  2. Hi everyone! Long time no post. I work full-time as a medic in New York City, and have been looking for a second job, possibly one with a path to a flight career. I've had my eye on a particular hospital in New Jersey that's a) not too far from my home in Queens, and b) hiring per diem medics. There is, however, a catch, or more specifically, a catch-22: --In order to get hired in New Jersey as a medic, you have to have a New Jersey State MICP (Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic) card. --To get an MICP card, you have to get sponsored by a hospital. --For a hospital to sponsor you to get your card, you have to get hired. --To get hired, you have to have an MICP card.... Can anyone see a way out of this loop? I've contacted a couple hospitals, but only ever gotten answering machines for the ALS coordinators, and those calls go into the black holes of Never Been Returned. And no, I don't have a National Registry, and no, even if I did it wouldn't help..... right? If any Jersey medics could let me know what I'm doing wrong here or who to reach out to I'd really, really appreciate it. ~MBC
  3. I do appologize, I am SURE something similar has been asked, but I cannot find it. Maybe my search-fu is horrible? I'm an American NRP and practice in Kentucky. I hold a bachelors degree from EKU in Emergency Medical Care (Paramedic/Premed). I am not currently looking to move to Australia (or anywhere for that matter) but I am curious, what would I have to do to get licensed in your country? I know my background isn't rare but it isn't the norm either, and I know Aussies generally have their act together with paramedicine so I'd be interested in what hoops there are. Thank you!
  4. Has anyone here received their PCP through JIBC and then transferred to EMT certification in Alberta? How did the reciprocity process work out for you? Thanks, H
