  1. Congratulations and thank you for being an EMT. They are amazing workers in the healthcare field. Keep learning and never give up.
  2. Maybe, you can buy a book about going into medical school (the process). You can also look at the library. I would also look into internet websites that pertain to medical school. I hope this helps you.
  3. I wish you good luck on your test. The best advice that I can give you is to get a good nights sleep, eat a good breakfast, take deep breaths, and to read through the test carefully. I wish you the very best.
  4. Congratulations in going into a field that you want to be in. That is such a wonderful thing. Here are a few ideas in order to help you: 1. You can look at anatomy and physiology. 2. You can look at chemistry. 3. You can look at psychology. 4. You can look into online mini-medical courses. I hope that helps.
  5. I have been where you are in taking tests over again. It is so hard. My problems for my test taking and the reason that I could not do the test the first time are the following: 1. I was tired and did not get enough sleep. 2. I was easily distracted due to the room distractions. 3. I have some learning differences and sometimes the accommodations that I need are not there in the testing room. 4. The lighting in the room is sometimes dim and I have a hard time seeing what I am suppose to see. I would consider these factors and perhaps others that you might think of and try to work on them. Here is a link to help you on the test: https://pacificmedicalacls.com/acls-online-library-preparing-for-the-mcat.html I wish you the very best.
  6. Being an EMT is such a rewarding career choice. I am so happy that you have chosen to do this type of work. When you are thinking about EMT classes, consider the following: 1. Does the class meet my medical requirements? 2. Does the class meet my educational needs and requirements? 3. Will the class help me in the medical field and in my future? 4. Will I need to take more classes?
  7. I can sympathize with you. I had to take test again and again and it was so frustrating to me as well. The thing that I would say are the following: 1. Go ask your teacher for help and guidance. 2. Be in a study group where you are helping one another. 3. Make lots of flashcards. 4. Draw pictures of the medical diagrams. Sometimes, that would help me understand the concepts better. Good luck to you!
  8. Congratulations on your new adventure and for going to school in such a wonderful field and a growing field too. I really enjoy working with people in the rescue and fire departments. I have worked in long-term care and also did some volunteer work at the hospitals and I was the school nurse and the EMT's and firemen that helped our students and patients were fantastic. I really respect the work that they do and it is hard work. I believe that chemistry would be a class that you could take before you start school or you could take it even in your first semester. Here is some other information that could help as well: https://www.acls.net/acute-coronary-syndromes-algorithm.htm
  9. In my school career, I have taken so many tests and some of the tests I had to re-take the exam. One of those tests that I can remember very well is taking one of the teaching for certification exams. I took the exam at least two times and I still could not get the higher points. It was very frustrating to me. I totally understand what you are going through. I am so very sorry. My best advice would be to let out your concerns and talk to your guidance counselor. I wish you the best.
  10. I had a friend who became a paramedic and he is doing just fine. In fact, he really enjoys the work that he is doing. He enjoys helping others and he also enjoys helping the rural areas of where he lives. He tells me that his job is so rewarding because he loves doing all that he can in order to take care of people. Being a paramedic is such a fabulous field to be in because you see so many patients and see so many things. Here is the web link for more information: http://www.pacificmedicalacls.com/first-medical-internship.html
  11. I would do a computerized test that is a practice version so that I would be ready and understand the answers. I would also understand how to do application testing by either purchasing a practice test book or getting one from the library. I would also ask your friends or get into a study group for the test and ask each other questions in order to help study for the test. I hope this helps. Please let us know how you did and I hope you did well.
  12. Going to medical school is a great career choice. I believe that sharing stories about going to medical school helps other people decide on the medical career pathway. It was not until I got into college that I wanted to be a nurse. Nursing was not on my radar at all until I read all of the information regarding the classes, schedules, and other aspects. That is when I realized that nursing was my medical career path that I wanted to take. What also encouraged me was the fact that I want to help people. Medical career paths are a wonderful career choice because there are so many different types of jobs in those fields and here is some information pertaining to medical careers: https://www.acls.net/study-guide-body-systems.htm This is information about the body systems and it is what you will be learning in medical school.
  13. I understand how you feel. I too have studied things and I did not do very well on the exams. It has been hard at times to just get things done and find the time to study. I also find it hard when I have a lot of things on my mind and I feel a lot of pressure. I find it easier if I have study guides to help me and if I also have pictures that follow my study guides. Here is a helpful study guide that could be helpful: https://www.acls.net/study-guide-body-systems.htm I hope you do well on your test. Thank you.
  14. You can get a CD that will help you in your anatomy and physiology classes. When I was in nursing school, I got a very big anatomy and physiology book and inside of it had a CD. The CD went over many things that the chapter covered. One of the things that it helped me realize was why sodium channels are so helpful in the body and why the mineral sodium is so helpful as well. It also had practice tests on the CD as well. I would also recommend doing practice tests if your textbook has them available to you.
  15. The first thing that you could do is to write down on paper all of the things that you want to do with this degree, answer the question on "Why I want to go to school," and then write the pros and cons about going to this type of school and getting this type of degree. That is how I became a nurse today. I thought about it and wrote things down about it. I also asked lots and lots of questions to my counselor. Good luck to you and congratulations on going to school.
