  1. that is soooo messed up. It makes me wonder why people do these things and what pleasure they get out of it. We ran a call one day for a 19 y/o girl with "Frequent episodes of fainting" First couple times we thought it was for real becaue her vitals were a little on the odd side and such. but we then kept getting calls out to her house sometime up to 15 times a week!!! We later found out that she had a fling for EMS guys and liked them touching her and feeling sorry for her. She ended up getting admitted to the psych ward.
  2. [/font:771adc9ae9] Okay, So we have all had one call or another where the person was faking illness or injury for some attention. I've had a few myself, i just gave them the treatment my scope of practice allowed and transported cuz hey, it's not our prob anyways,we do our job,get them to the ER and let them deal with it, then we're through. Ok someone besides me thought it would be cool to start a board on some of your best stories of people who faked illness and how you treated it. so Post away! and people please dont get mad this wasn't all my idea, just a change in topics is all. okay now post away
  3. Yeah that would be great Terri! You'll have to let me know when you'll be here so we can go hang out or something. I'll give you my cell number in a PM sometime so you can get a hold of me.
  4. [To: All EMS Personnel From: Chief of Operations Subject: Proper Narrative Descriptions It has come to our attention from several emergency rooms that many EMS narratives have taken a decidedly creative direction lately. Effective immediately, all members are to refrain from using slang and abbreviations to describe patients, such as the following. 1) Cardiac patients should not be referred to as suffering from MUH (messed up heart), PBS (pretty bad shape), PCL (pre-code looking) or HIBGIA (had it before, got it again). 2) Stroke patients are NOT "Charlie Carrots." Nor are rescuers to use CCFCCP(Coo Coo for Cocoa Puffs) to describe their mental state. 3) Trauma patients are not CATS (cut all to shit), FDGB (fall down, go boom), TBC (total body crunch) or "hamburger helper." Similarly, descriptions of a car crash do not have to include phrases like "negative vehicle to vehicle interface" or "terminal deceleration syndrome." 4) HAZMAT teams are highly trained professionals, not "glow worms." 5) Persons with altered mental states as a result of drug use are not considered "pharmaceutically gifted." 6) Gunshot wounds to the head are not "trans-occipital implants." 7) The homeless are not "urban outdoorsmen," nor is endotracheal intubation referred to as a "PVC Challenge." 8) And finally, do not refer to recently deceased persons as being "paws up," ART (assuming room temperature), CC (Cancel Christmas), CTD (circling the drain), DRT (dead right there) or NLPR (no long playing records). I know you will all join me in respecting the cultural diversity of our patients to include their medical orientations in creating proper narratives and log entrieswww.firehouse.com Posted by Chief, on October 30, 2003 06:45 AM
  5. Lol I loved that game! got a bit addicting in my 4 days of no sleep mind! [/font:a177e38b68] :violent2:
  6. I totally and completely 100% AGREE!!!! I've had my share of rides in the back of an ambulance from injury and illness and the thought never crossed my mind on what level they are; could of actually cared less just as long as they knew what they were doing and their best interest was taking care of me and getting me to the hospital. Most of those abbreviations the general public doesn't know what they mean anyways, some are lucky to know what an EMT stands for. so who cares ya know. EMS is nothing but a huge pissing contest to some, not all, but some and SOME like to use those abbreviations for seniority purposes.
  7. 100% Dixie. Is General Lee your grandfather?! YEEHAW! lol I know i'm 100% lol
  8. Wow! I agree with every last bit of that! The thing that pisses me off the most is when my father died a year ago, I lost insurance because he carried it on all of us kids. I was 19 when that happend. so busting my ass working 2 jobs one at Walmart and one at a hotel, i was not eligible for insurance. so what i did is was went to the public assistance building and went through the whole mess to try and get some. I have a lot of health problems with my heart and digestive system and was doing well going to my follow up appointments with my doctors to get it taken care of. but when i lost insurance i was no longer able to do so. so anyway back to the public aide. i went to the public aide office and sat there for hours just to find out, they cant help me because they have to combine all the income of everyone living in the house. well, it was my brother, me and my mother and her friend and her friends son. we lived with them cuz we were homeless at the time. so yeah i got denied for assistance. but what really pissed me off is there was a Mexican women and her 12 children that got approved! The kicker of it all? she ADMITTED flat out right there that her and her children were illegals!! SO here I am busing my ass STILL at the age of 20 with no insurance and a 2 major things wrong with me that can and will kill me. I just dont think it's fair at all. these people have free health coverage and free everything and dont even use it but yet i cant get a little bit of help. something needs to be done to stop this mess of people abusing the system.
