  1. I think the most important thing for a preseptor should do is, if the student is showing signs of stress, to either step in or to try and talk them through. There are many times all I had to say is "Take a deep breath" and they get back on track.

I will personally say I have always lucked out in having great preceptors. The partners could be pricks, but all in all it was a great learning time in my career.

    Good question Mobey

  3. A young lady confidently walked around the room while leading and explaining stress management to an audience with a raised glass of water. Everyone knew she was going to ask the ultimate question, 'half empty or half full?'... She fooled them all .... "How heavy is this glass of water?" she inquired with a smile. Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. To 20 oz. She replied , "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance. In each case it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes." She continued, "and that's the way it is with stress. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on." "As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden - holding stress longer and better each time practiced. So, as early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down. Don't carry them through the evening and into the night... Pick them up tomorrow. 1 * Accept the fact that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue! 2 * Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them. 3 * Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it. 4 * Drive carefully... It's not only cars that can be recalled by their Maker. 5 * If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague. 6 * If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it. 7 * It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others. 8 * Never buy a car you can't push. 9 * Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on. 10 * Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance. 11 * Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late. 12 * The second mouse gets the cheese. 13 * When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane. 14 * Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live. 16 * Some mistakes are too much fun to make only once. 17 * We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box. 18 * A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour. 19 * Have an awesome day and know that someone has thought about you today. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY 20 *Save the earth..... It's the only planet with chocolate!*

  4. The only time I have assisted vents in pt that is awake is someone with CHF. I sat behind the pt, asked them to squeeze my arm when they were going to take a breath, then gently squeezed the bag. This took a few minutes of both of us co-ordinating the breaths but in the end it worked well.

  5. I have carabou, elk, and some deer from last season in our freezer right now. I will not buy meat from the store when I have a man to go kill it, gut it and cut it up personally. I don't know what kind of beef I'm getting from the store, but I can tell you the region our elk meat is from and when exactly it was killed and how. I like that.

Elk is amazing though and one of my favorites.

Elk is pretty good but like caraboo can be tough if not prepared properly.

Funny elk story. Years ago a friend of ours went and shot and elk. He happens to have a hanging walk in cooler, so one day the neighbour kid (about 6 i think) was walking in the culdesac, when Stan said "Hey Brett come and see what I have in the cooler" Now being Brett the little red neck, he went running to see. Stan opens up the door and says"look I shot Rudolf" Bretts look on his face was priceless and he went screaming home to his mother that Stan shot rudolf. Stan did shoot an elk but had put a clowns nose on it just before showing Brett. The lesson of that is Rednecks are mean :) but they are sure funny lol

  6. Defib you eat funny things. ERDoc I agree on the normal meat but I will say that I will not eat deer from anywhere but here. A deer's taste is based on what they eat and when they are shot, and how the are shot for example if the deer has run after the shooting the meat is grossssssssssssssssssssss. Drop it dead and it is an awsome meat. You really should try it, if I can any this year I will send you a can :)

Eskabob im sure if your earthquake distroyed everything that reptile food would look awsome :)

  7. WOW thank you scotty boy, it was just a plot to get you back here. Dwyane and Happiness, never did I ever think those two names would be in the same sentance.

Just remember Dwayne you are the company that you keep :) Can't wait to see Annabelle,

Scotty you truely are a caring and loving person and Im blessed to have you as a friend. Welcome back look forward to you posts

  8. Okay Im going to comment on the mental illness. We tend to deal with this tragic issues in hind sight. There is always someone who says "Ya you know the guy was alittle weird" I have to say if it quacks like a duck then it is a duck so therefore if it looks crazy it probably is. We cant pigon hole every crusty the clown looking people but you know if there is a gut feeling about someone then maybe someone should take it one step further in the application system. Just saying.............

  9. We gave the boys one year bb guns and made it very clear that they were suppose to hit tin cans, and if they shot anything they would have to eat it.

#1 child in the bird sancuary shooting at geese. Didnt hit anything and RCMP took away gun.

#2 child out camping killed a few squirrels. They look pretty grusome on a stick cooking over an open fire. nothing like chestnuts. He never killed anything again.

#3 child shot the neighbours cat in the ass after it came on the pourch, beat the crap out of his cat and ate his food (i finally rid the yard of that cat when from high above i dumped a bucket of cold water on it, and it was a direct hit) Gun taken away from mother. Later to find out that one evening laying on the couch he had also laid on the couch and made a happy face in my ceiling.

The lesson of the story is that the 3rd child is the lucky one to live to adulthood :)
