  1. I've been riding ATVs (2, 3, and 4 wheeled) for 20+ years now. From my personal experience I have found it takes a pretty significant impact to throw a driver from the vehicle. Based on that alone, I'd probably have done a standing take-down to error on the side of caution. Just my $.02. -skibum
  2. Adding onto Ruff's post... What would the legal ramifications be if the dispatcher contacted the Hospital Administration on behalf of the pt.? -skibum
  3. For anyone interested, I happened to note that it is playing again this Sunday from 7-8am EDT on DiscoveryHD. I have this set to record on my DVR for pure curiosity, but based on the posts here, I'm not getting my hopes up that this will be very good. Anyway just thought I'd share if anyone wanted to try to catch it. -skibum
  4. Pretty talented guy. Thanks.
  5. Found this interesting/disturbing: [web:6eaddb8e3c]http://www.thewvsr.com/adsvsreality.htm[/web:6eaddb8e3c] Link
  6. Thanks for the input, just wanted to hear some other thoughts on this. -skibum
  7. Hi all, I had a rather heated discussion with an RN this morning, and want to run this by everyone here for their $.02. The RN claimed that when a PT has a pacemaker that the "Heimlich" (AKA abdominal thrusts), should not be used while conscious; but instead the PT should have a few good thumps on the back. I have been an EMT for several years, and I have never heard of such a thing. Nor have I found any sort of confirmation of this online. And common sense (at least to me) would imply that this is pretty much B.S. and the RN is living up to my general expectations of a nurse. Have any of you ever heard of any such thing? Is this perhaps an "ancient" protocol? Thoughts? Thanks. -skibum
  8. Perhaps this should be in that 'Emotionally disturbed person' thread? Strange individual, perhaps following in Michael Jackson's footsteps? -skibum

    Close Call

Just curious... where did this happen?
  10. I chose my original wording carefully "at some point", was meant to mean that it could eventually be adapted into a form of rescue equipment. I agree that having to have a permanent rope mounted would be impractical. But... perhaps this device could be expanded on to make it more of a 'universal' tool. Meaning, no need to have a fixed rope to every building, but make it more like the fictional Batman tool where it would be some kind of self contained unit. Again, I didn't mean for this to be an immediately usable item, but something that "at some point", with enhancements, might prove itself useful. -skibum
  11. Thought this was kinda neat, and there might be some practical applications for it at some point in the fire/rescue service: Link [web:1fdc77171e]http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/ptech/02/14/wall.climb.invention.ap/index.html[/web:1fdc77171e] And I added a poll just for the fun of it -skibum

    Cat Bloopers

Thanks Comanche I'll just add another bit of entertainment: -skibum
  13. Assuming it's not: 590. If it was per incident, going to college would have cost me much more 8) -skibum
  14. I'm going to bring this thread back to life with a graphical amendment to Terri's post: -skibum
  15. I tend to agree with you on the whole, I wasted some time watching a bunch of them. One of my favorites was the dalmation bud commercial (probably just because I like dogs).
  16. Thats great Comanche. Here's a similar one that I like (I may have found it on here, but when I searched for it, I couldn't find it again): -skibum
  17. I try to stay out of NYC, so I can't say if they have an ordinance against the studs or not. Regarding the rest of the state, I have no knowledge that they were ever illegal prior to (something like ) 1965 when they originally became legal. Perhaps someone with more knowledge of NYC (*ahem* Asysin2leads) would have more knowledge. -skibum
  18. Hi Glenn, I wish I could be more help, I am a Ski Patroller, but all of our communications are done on a "standard" portable radio, far from anything as modern as an HT. When we have to switch channels we have to deglove etc. A speakermic is the only advice I'd have to offer, but I suspect your in-helmet headsets trump that even still. However, looking at it from a HAM perspective, you might be able to find a handheld radio system that has functionality built into a speakermic (channel changing and volume control) but that's just a thought. Perhaps there are others that will be able to provide some helpful insight, otherwise, I'd agree with akroeze and would suggest spending more time speaking with dealers. Sorry I wasn't more helpful. Good luck finding a solution. -skibum
  19. I just want to clarify, in NYS studded snow tires are legal, but only from October 16 - April 30. -skibum
  20. Hahaha Somehow I think this threat would be more effective against NYC than Canada.
  21. I found this video entertaining/disturbing, and thought I would share. If it offends you, I am sorry, don't take it personally  Ralph the Redneck Rapper in "Country Azz Folk" -skibum
  22. I too love Boondock Saints, but I have to chime in with a line from Super Troopers: O'Hagen: I swear to God, I'll pistol whip the next guy that says 'shenanigans!'
